64 Power Steering build question

Post by Chucks64 »

Hey guys, new to this forum, first post....
I can not seem to find what I am looking for this particular issue.
I am building a 64, adding PS using a Mustang II rack that TCI supplies with their IFS. It has 9/16-18 high pressure port and 5/8-18 return on the rack side. I am attempting to mate it to a Ford/Thompson style pump (Cardone 96-7058). I have the return hose found and on but having trouble finding the pressure side line to work. The line I'm working with now has a 5/8-18 male inverted flare end and on my pump it is a 5/8-18 male as well. I looked all over and can't seem to find a 90 elbow with 5/8-18 female to female to get them to work (elbow would be best to clear headers). I also attempted to convert the 5/8's ends to -6AN then use a -6AN 90 elbow, but port on the pump is longer than the 5/8 to AN fitting will allow, it will not engage any threads. Surely someone has added PS to our trucks with these two components? Should not be this hard. Thanks in advance for any insight.

I used an -6AN banjo bolt fitting on the Saginaw pump for my 390. I was adding power steering to my 66 truck and the oil pressure sending unit was real close to the back of the pump.

The kit below is called a Mustang II rack kit and has the same -6AN banjo bolt that I used.

MN66, thanks for the reply. I actually did see this kit, didn't know how the banjo would work with my male fitting on the pump. I believe Saginaw pump is a female, so I can see that. But after looking at the directions for the Gotta Show 131101, it shows using their part # 601196 for Ford pumps with 5/8-18 male fitting. This might work, costly set to not know for sure, so I will be calling them, looks nice however. Thanks.

In case anyone runs into the same issue, the GottaShow kit 131101 worked out great. I called them directly and she swapped out part # 601196 adapter for the one that came in original kit, no extra.
