RHD wiper motor

Post by Leeroy »

Any chance one of you boys could snap me a pic of the RHD wiper motor attached under the dash? What I have now is.... well interesting.

Trying to get ahead when I get it back and want to know if I can fab a LHD model up to ours (and get it to spin the correct way)

Thanks boys, thats helpful.

Daz can you measure the arms for me if possible? (Or Al if you want to crawl up under beryl ) I just want to know if they are the LHD arms reversed. HOPEFULLY 12 1/4" or 12 1/2"?

Alan what did you do for Lenore? Factory or something else?

Leith the arms measure 11 1/2" centre to centre at the holes.
there is some part numbers on the arms 89339-11.
the pivots are numbered 46.
the arm on the motor parks to the left if that helps as well.

Leith, it`s all original in Lenore just new cork washer and back nuts.

Thanks boys.

Looks like the LHD transmission arms and pivots are the same at least (winning!)

Im reviving this cause I'm trying to get the wipers back in :cussing:

This is what I've got (Obviously butchered from something else)
Motor itself looks correct, although I can't find a date on it.

I have the correct LHD mounting plate, but damn it, it turns out its much shorter than the RHD type. The LHD plate is about 150ish centre to centre, The holes in the firewall for the wiper motor plate is about 270-280ish (I was upside down and couldn't quite see, but its MUCH wider)

Local f100 wrecker actually yelled at me that he wouldn't separate a $10 part from his $1000 RHD dash conversion...... :argue: :argue: :argue:

Sooooo, do any of you boys have the plate I'm looking for???

I would of thought that the wiper motor was mounted in the same position, and just the arms were different. don`t the mounting holes show through the firewall ( being lazy and not walking out to look )....... Oh ok I`ll go out and look.... Lenores are 337mm apart, but that was stretching over and trying to read it at an angle..
I think you may have a mounting plate from another model, wouldn`t trust any of the wreckers here :x

I might be able to knock one up for you copying mine, but there`ll have to be beer involved!

Thats weird...... When you say 337 is that the plate or the mounting holes?
It's real hard to see the tape measure in the pic but the distance between the mounting holes is 290?!

I bought a whole LHD wiper setup from a 65 when I first bought the slick because I knew what was there was a bitsa and not even the spindles were correct. They sent the whole thing, spindles, arms, motor, mount and even all the clips. So the one I took the pic of above was from the LHD setup (on the green bin not the red overspray one!) although I agree I would have thought the mount would have been the same LHD or RHD.

Just because I am working on mine... the spindles that go through the cowl are generic because they just go back and forth, irregardless of what is driving them.
You can go with a right hand drive set up as well since water does not care which way it gets sent off the window screen. That will give you more time to find a correct left hand drive set up to please your sense of propriety.
If you have a set up that fits, I do believe all you have to do is to play with the mounting of the motor so that it parks, and stops, on the opposite side of your wind screen.
Mount it on a board outside the cab and you will see what I mean, spinning the motor 180 should get it to park on the opposite side of the windscreen.
You can also get intermittent wipers, and window washer set up from a later model ford truck, which may solve all your issues. I just mounted the newer motor and electrical harness to my mounting plate.
I can send you some sites that were sent to me. Fordification is one of them.

well that's good John ( aussie John ) :) , as it seems that mine is a bodgie one as well, and Yankie John I think your right, those arms only go back and forth , so only the start/ finish position is different..

The motor mount holes??? Maybe you can. I assumed from where I was looking they were behind the plenum. I'm not tall enough to measure the firewall even if they were!
