Finished My Hitch Mounted Cargo Rack for My SUV

Post by MadMaxetc »

I have a 1.25" hitch on my Mountaineer and we are going on a trip to Northern MN with almost a full load of people. I didn't want to put all the cargo on the roof (to much drag), so I built this!

I gave it some lights for added safty and I also put a place to mount the Licence Plate because it would have been coverd up when loaded. Also gave it a light for at night!

here is a shot form the back.

It weighs about 40lbs but I beefed it up so it can take a load.

I started with 12 gage 1.25" boxed steel, this wasn't engough so I took some thick (10 gage?) 1" angle and fit them inside the to form another box. I then cut a few notches every 2" along it. then welded them all together. It is realy strong and shouldn't bend or twist. The frame is 1" angle and it has 3/4" boxed tube for the supports. I can stand on one of the corners for a second and there is no give.

I am proud of it so I hung it up next to my other prize posetion...ny Rust FREE 64 Core Support coated in POR-15!

What do you guys think!?

I think it looks great, but had to vote for the monkey. When given a choice, I usually make the wrong one!

...I can't get these smiley faces to work.
