Almost............................

Post by Greg D »

Since my 79 is my daily driver it has had to take some precedence over the 64.
I know some of this is cosmetic and doesn't affect it's value as transportation but I just couldn't handle looking at it like it was. Part of that is it just seemed a shame for what is actually a pretty decent old truck to look like a rolling POS because of someone else's bad repair. They literally just beat the bedside in around the wheel arch and slathered about 1/2 to 3/4s of and inch of filler in it. They did a fantastic job shaping it but of course the bad repair made it rust even worse. And yes both sides. The right side took more than just the repair patch - I cut up the fender in the one pic to make patches for what the repair panel didn't cover. There is still more metal work do do on the patched sections, like I said they literally just pounded the bedsides in to fill it. That is for another day when I do the whole truck - I could have filled it more but that would leave me more to grind out later to finish it better so I compromised less future work.
Aside from the wheel arch rust this was a nice solid truck.
I've been getting after it pretty intense because I want to get back on my 64.
I still have to get the 5.0 & T5 swapped into it (weekend job after I get a few more parts) from the 64 (I got a 300-6 for it like I really wanted in there), a few more minor touchups, bed corners, and 1 cab corner, but she's nearly done for now. I plan a full repaint for it after I get the 64 done.

As I got her about 1 year ago;

A shot of the enormous gaping rot (and there is more that is still covered in filler in this pic) I repaired on the bed;

Found a nice looking bump in Carl Junction Missouri the other day. Never did find out what he was asking for it. Short bed 2wd. That's about all I found out about it.

Work looks good Greg.

I think those stripes accent the truck nicely. Good choice.

In ever thought much of this era of truck but it is growing on me. My childhood friends parents all had one in the driveway.
