puppy in the house
Meet Hildegarde (Hilda). She is 9 weeks old. Full schnauzer. Her mom is named Cleo, Daddy was Klaus, and had 3 brothers. One brother named Bear is twice the rest of their size. I wanted to take them all home with me, but she is the one I adopted.
She is so tiny right now that she can fit thru the slats on my baby gates up in the house.
I am going to have to buy a dog pen at petsmart or petco today.
Diesel so far is doing really well with his new adopted sister. He is going to be 9 years old this year and will be able to teach her all kinds of things. Like chasing squirrels, barking at the people who walk by our home.... you know.. dog stuff.

Re: puppy in the house
Hilda has the attention span of a teaspoon. She is following Diesel around everywhere she can the best way she knows how. trying to sniff the mailbox posts, trees, trashcans. She wants to do everything with him but he is a bit annoyed.
We are doing well at potty training. Only have to take her out at midnight then she sleeps till 0500. If we take a walk around the block (.25 miles) she is tired enough to sit in her dog bed and chew on a toy. Diesel just takes watch out the front window. I have to come home from work after about 3.5 hours to make sure she gets to go potty.
One thing we need to work on is her anxiety. She cries non-stop as soon as I leave the house. Poor Diesel has had to listen to that screeching for days. He is being a good boy and no behavioral issues. It will take some time.
I keep her crated through the day and at night. when I am home, we play in the living room, but I also allow her to play in a play pen. She needs to grow up some before I can let her off leash in the back yard. she is so small right now she can slide out under the fence.

Here's my version of a Schnauzer... She a Schnoodle, but got a much larger dose of "Schn"auzer than she did P"oodle".
She rules the house and my poor 70lb Vizsla runs scared when she gets after him.
My next dog will be a mini-Schnauzer.

Re: puppy in the house
I pay someone to do Diesel's grooming. I would totally F- it up! He gets a sweet mohawk buzzed on his head each time. He is one bad dude.
As for Hilda, she is growing fast! I swear the more she sleeps in the day and night, she gains a few ounces and is probably an inch taller now. She is doing well at potty training (75%of the time) and is doing good at leash walking. She does get rowdy and starts to ankle bite. I have to pick her up to re-direct her energy.
As for the two, they are getting along by not being close. Diesel did instigate play the other day after he returned from the groomers. He went into the truck all scared and shaking (never does that!) and was freaked out when I dropped him off at the groomer. When I picked him up, he was ecstatic. He went into the back yard while I went inside the house to get Hilda. He of course rolled over and showed belly to her in the game. He was so happy to be home. I honestly believe he probably was worried he was being abandoned again. He is a sweet boy and it is so hard to believe anyone ever let him go!
long way to go with training Hilda.

Re: puppy in the house
LOL Yeah. She "had" that sweet face a few weeks ago. She is growing fast and now 11 weeks old. Her expression has emerged into a mischievous one which is constantly instigating playtime with Diesel. he allowed it, but remember he is 4 times her size/weight so I watch them play and pray diesel doesn't get too rough. She just keeps coming back for more despite being flung this way and that or pinned by the neck. Doesn't phase her. Diesel does get tired you can tell but won't quit till I break it up and put hilda back in her play pen.

This made me smile.
I lost one of my Shelties today. Hard losing one of them, like losing a family member. Really hard on my 12 year old son.

So sorry to hear this. I know exactly what you mean- one of the family.orangeRcode wrote:This made me smile.

I have grown up my entire life with a pet. Had persian cats (Dad's favorite animals) to a couple dogs in my life. Mom and dad have a persian and two Japanese Chin dogs that I am their favorite person when I visit.
I had a cat a couple years ago- from 2006-2012. He was about 7 when he died. Not too long after I got diesel. Not as a replacement, but as a new family member.
You never forget them.

Re: puppy in the house
Little Hilda is 12 weeks old and growing more each day. She and diesel are starting to do a lot of play fighting, but Diesel is still huge in size to her. She just doesn't know when to stop. Yesterday evening, she yelped a few times as Diesel was trying to put her in her place, but she just kept coming back for more. A good long 1 mile walk tuckered them out and we were able to sleep the whole night through.

Re: puppy in the house
last photo I posted was two weeks ago.
She is growing fast and Diesel is starting to be nice and let her win at the battles. Does get mean and go full speed and knocks her over repeatedly once and a while- but she deserved it as she was bugging him.

Re: puppy in the house
Barkbox(Hilda) and Monster (Diesel) have been getting along very well. I even have left Hilda alone in the living room with Diesel, and all they did was play their "Face biting" game and sleep.
Hilda is now 4 months old and about 8.5 to 9 pounds. She just grew and grew!
today being the 1st of the month, in my family it has been a tradition=superstition to say "RABBITS" first thing in the morning on the first- to bring good luck. It is an old Cornish family thing my family has done for more years than I can count. Anyway- Hilda decided to participate.
They both will be getting groomed this weekend. Diesel's hair is just so fine it knots easy.
hilda just gets into everything and smells like dog...

Re: puppy in the house
little bark box Hilda is growing so much.
I took them to the groomers today and had a laugh when we got home as they had a little "Lady and the Tramp" moment.
She is 6 months old now, about 10 pounds, and skinny legs without that fur.
Diesel is in love with her and they are finally bonded. she follows him everywhere, and he makes sure she is safe when not in the house.

Great pictures of Hilda. I have had several dogs over the years but now have a cat named Shop Kitty. I named her that because she follows me all over the shop like dog when I am working out there.

Re: puppy in the house
Don't know how much the bark box weighs now- but today I noticed her butt is bigger!
I had to put that plywood board up on the base of the fence due to her slipping outside there.
She can't really fit now.
Aged 9 months now.
