b24 grandpa

Post by shipwrecked »

found a photo of my grandpa with his B24 crew. the Flock of 9's was one plane and another he crewed on is Charlotte the Harlot. He was a navigator, and did not fly in any combat or go overseas. He was picked up for flight school, went into navigator school and then once he was qualified, he was an navigator instructor in Mountain Home Idaho and Moses Lake Washington. First member of his family to be born in the US. His family is still very much entrenched in Mousehole Cornwall England. He was born in the US as and spent his first year of life in Cornwall.

His birthday is coming up soon, and I found this photo this morning. He would have been 96 years old. He passed away on December 25, 2004. A great man... aged 22 years old here in this photo.

My Great Uncle (Grampas brother) did a tour in B24's ... He never really talked about it and I am not sure anyone knows what he did. Those guys knew the definition of fear though, It had to be so stressful only a 20 year olds heart could take it...
