T5 conversion to use in 66 f100.

Post by 64 f100 »

After looking everything over once I set the motor, I've decided the best thing is to convert the t5 with an S10 tailshaft. I need to know what all I need off an S10 transmission to make this work, and what is normal or how much can I get the parts for? Will any S10 tail work or does it have to be for the 4.3? Any does and don't , or does anyone know where I can get an article on how to do this. I have never taken a t5 apart before. Don't have any books that show how. I've considered buying one of the discs or books off evilbay for this, any suggestions?

A lot of folks were at SS this weekend. Hopefully someone will have some info for this week. I'm interested in doing this as a future upgrade on my truck.

It looks as if the biggest problem is the speedo gear on the tail shaft. It looks as if, you have to make a bushing to move the speedo gear to locate it on the shaft where needed. Besides the housing you will need the shifter rod from the cap.

I found a guy on the east coast that supplies parts for the t5. I used the s10 tail cover, shaft and overdrive gear he supplied and it all worked out. I also used alumnium tape to shim my son's gear and it seems to have worked out as welll
