Bad day in kansas

Post by slick4x4 »

Went to town today
Got home about 2pm
As soon as I opened the door & felt the air
I told Colleen .... Feels like tornado weather
About 4 o'clock went into tornado warnings
Just a little later... Was paged out on fire dept
House 2 miles north totally destroyed.. Nothing left...
3 miles north.. Machinery shed gone..
Along with grain truk , combine , tractor , planter.... All rolled like toys
3 miles west , nice new shed destroyed ... Everything tossed into my field
No electricity as of yet (10 pm)

Not good, I hate to hear it Pat. I pray hope no one was hurt. Looks like y'all aren't the only ones catching hell today. It appears that Florida is going to get hammered hard tonight and tomorrow

We've had tornado warnings all evening but nothing came of it except a few thunderstorms.

Saw this morning on the news that a tornado had hit Kipp. Hope all are well. Take care and power should be back on soon. If not, fire up the generator for necessities.

Power companies worked hard
Several miles of line & poles layed over
Power back on at around 4:30 am
The tornado did not go thru Kipp
Was about 3/4 mile to the west

Tornadoes are a bit strange in the fact
That they can flatten a house... And not disturb something 50 feet away

No people or pets hurt as far as I know

Sorry to hear about the damage - hope everyone is ok.

I flew out of KC airport last night and it was one of the more memorable climb-outs that I can recall. Lots of white knuckled passengers and the reminder that bags were located in the seat back in front of you.

It doesn't look like the one I remember if you are talking about the one where we went and had a drink in their garage/man cave.

No , but we did drive by it
The older couple that live there had to move to retirement home about 6 months ago
The man passed away about 2 months ago
I'm glad he didn't have to see this
He always kept everything perfect

Strangely... When a big area gets wind (like we had at SlickStock)
A tornado rarely pops up....
Yesterday when that tornado happened I bet the wind didn't gust
Over 30mph .....
The town of Kipp (where we stopped and got the SLICK60s plates)
Was about a 1/2 mile from where that house got flattened
There was zero damage in Kipp... Didn't even blow leaves off of trees

Typically here, the tornadoes will be on the north west end of a super cell or front... at least to an amateur weather watcher it seems that way !

And they are always heading east ......

The ones here go north-east
We had one in 2008
It was a couple of miles north of this last one
and went almost exactly the same angle
It was almost a perfect parallel line on the map

Had a crew of about 50 clean up my field today
The family that had the shed is also the highschool football coach
About a dozen highschool boys showed up
About 3 hours and things looked pretty good
I gave the wife a $100 and told her to go buy pizza
They didn't want to take my money... since it was "their" fault....
I said you don't want to piss off a farmer who owns ground around your house
Or you might be living next to a pig pen !
They are great people.... They have 4 sons
we get along great ... Good neighbors are a blessing

Good neighbors are a blessing, however when they aren't you have to do what I have been doing at Moms, new fence with extra high and tight barbwire......

That just makes life stressful
I told him that they can hunt or do anything they want there
Ride thier 4 wheelers anywhere they want... Some of the time
I said after I plant a crop until it's harvested they have to stay off
They understand why
When I leave machinery over there they keep an eye out for me

Well I think these neighbors will appreciate the new fence on 1/3 of their yard... I am pretty sure they want their property fenced in.. bad enough that they came thru Moms old fence to steal her extra steel fence posts so they could put them up on the other side of their property to "keep thieves out " of their yard...

Do they burn firewood ?
Old trick of making a "loaded" log.....
It involves gunpowder... You probably get the drift.....
Maybe have a little wood pile , where it's tempting.....

That probably too extreme
If all they ever find on your property is post... Not too bad....

I remember as a kid we had our fuel tanks out by the "road" for easy access by the tank truck. Gasoline kept disappearing. You can guess my dad's solution. He found the culprit's car a ways down the road. As far as I know he never even spoke to them about it, but I don't think we lost any more fuel!
