T5 speedo question

Post by 64 f100 »

Since this is the first one of these I have installed in one of these trucks, I need to ask if the speedometer cable will work with the stock end that came out of the original 3 speed transmission. I'm using the stock tail shaft housing that came with the T5 and not doing the T-10 tail shaft conversion.

It worked for mine but the gear in the transmission must have a different tooth count because the speedo indicated differently at the same rpm in 4th (same as 3rd of the 3 speed). So, you may need a different gear on the end of the cable to correct that.

Charlie,Did you change the internal, larger drive gear, or where you able to adjust with the smaller gear? do you remember which colors? Right now I am using my TomTom as a speedo.

I didn't need to change anything. I took a GPS with me and it was dead on, so the small gear I had been using was wrong for the 3 speed.
