Went to a car show today

Post by slick4x4 »

The local Ford dealer put it on
All vehicles welcome... trophys went to all brands... they weren't biased

Cleaned the 61 up some...
Basically threw all the junk out of the bed & cab
(Gets junk & trash built up while used as a farm truck)
Then ran it to the car wash & $3 bucks

Sat outside a big part of the day
Saw a few guys I knew
Met some neat owners of old ones

Finally they announced the winners .....
57-72 trucks..........

It went to a 59 F100
Had a red paint job that probably cost 3 times as much as I have in my truck
Under the hood it had a chromed out .....350

I went home without a trophy
But at least I had my pride

Yep when ever I see a small block Chevy engine in anything but a Chevy I walk right on by. Doesn't matter if it is the nicest car or truck in the show hands down. I don't give it a second look and I do not vote for it. When I go to a show I have to convince people that my engine is not a small block Chevy even with the Thunderbird valve covers on it.

It was a showstopper truck.... I spied the red paint job from a long way
Absolutely flawless smooth , shiny , perfect....
Looked inside the cab
Very professionally built.... no corners cut
High dollar wheels ... not one thing was done on the cheap

Then looked in the engine bay & there it was
Chromed out 350 chebby with all the bells & whistles
All work under there looked perfect

Not sure why something like that is done
Because it is "cheaper" "easier" " better" ....
Just doesn't hold water
This guy could have had several different FORD engines powering it,
that would have made more power & just as reliable

But... truck was surrounded by all sorts of build sheets & past trophys
I knew that he was totally into the "show" part ... no need in bothering him

I've seen several local Slicks around with Olds engines in them. Not sure why that is other they were cheap and plentiful? :bs:

There was a international pickup there
Wood flatbed & cab painted canary yellow
Chebbie engine under the hood

I'll give the guy an ok on that one
Binder stuff isn't common
And high performance stuff is almost nothing

But putting them in a Ford is done for one reason only :arse:

The one interesting type of brand motor swap I have always wanted to see was that Toronado? V8 front wheel drive setup.. mounted in the box. Making the truck rear wheel drive. When I was a kid somebody in Des Moines had one of those in a pickup.. I guess it would pull wheelies... used to hear people talk about it.. never saw it.

I've seen that swap done to a tube sand buggy. On any surface other than asphalt it spun before lifting the front, on the pavement it was a "release the throttle to steer" type of vehicle. Much like a fiero with a V8...

Foodstick, half a century ago, I did a Chebbie in a Chebbie, put a big block in the middle of a Rampside Corvair. I intend to replicate it with an Impala unit in the middle of my Loadside. I'm always looking for a front wheel drive 32 valve Continental with the idea in mind of a rear engined Uni!
