Chasing a gremlin

Post by slick4x4 »

One of my old wheat trucks started running poorly
It's not a Ford, but a good depenble (for last 20 years.) truck
Started running bad when wife was driving
She thought it was the fuel pump
.....
No big deal.. I was headed to town, got a new pump, filter , hose
Put it all on .... still ran like crap .....
Started easy... idled ok.... just run like crap
.......
Son said new plugs needed....
This truck does burn a bit of oil & has fouled them
I put new points , cap , wires , plugs in a couple years ago
So.... we replaced all the plugs
....same results
DANG IT !
we pulled the carb and I took it to the carb shop
Dave has rebuilt carbs forever
From lawn mowers to 4bbls to fuel injection
I've had him do several with perfect results
Got the carb back & bolted it back on with new gasket
Fired it up
Same results
DAM IT !
Started checking wiring around coil & dizzy
Everything looked good enough
Pulled the cap ..points look perfect....
Wait a minute... the condenser is loose (not grounded good)
Are you kidding me ? .... tightened it up, put everything back together
Hit the key... idled perfect... accelerates perfect , runs perfect...
Spent over $200 cause the little condenser was loose :cussing:
Well.. it has new stuff... shouldn't have any problems in a long time
.......
Just goes to show you how a GOOD GROUND is very important
........
I see guys ask questions on here like..
"When I push on my brake pedal... my dash lights come on
my windshield wipers start moving slow & and my radio starts playing
music from the 1960s & I smell a funny odor ...
.......
I can tell you 2 things ...
You have some GROUND PROBLEMS... or
There is a stinky ghost in yer truck
....
It's probably ground problems... and a dead mouse
.
.
.
[b]'' I think what scares me the most about you guys is that I understand you '' ..... KID
'' lookin good, a little paint adds at least 100hp!'' ....... COOTER
'' well an old guy can dream cant he? ''............ICEMAN
''I would donate organs before selling my slick''........ HOOFBEAT RACER

So true.....

12 Volts isn't worth a dime, if there's no ground.
