Eastwood scroll compressor

Post by 64 f100 »

Eastwood advertisement for a new style compressor cam in my inbox. Looks interesting, anyone try it or know about this style of compressor?

I know of scrolls from the HVAC industry.
They seal better with use, unlike piston compressor's. Most of the ones that failed died of electrical failures.

I could explain in detail how they work...
But the main point is they work, use less HP for the same work and are quieter than a piston unit.
As with all things, I comes down to the quality of parts used to build it...

Eaton and other companies us it on their superchargers. The large air compressors we had at one of the powerplants I used to work at was screw or scroll type.

Just thinking that if the adds are telling the truth, then scroll would be the way to go. Hoping someone else had been the guinea pig and have some good or bad info to tell me. Quiet would be nice, but I already have several compressors, some I have not even hooked up yet, mainly because of size and 3 phase electric. I've got one 4 cylinder copmpressor that has a 15hp. motor. A real monster, and I even bought a 20 hp converter for it. Although 20hp is really not big enough for the start up. Also don't have any place to set it up inside. Thinking I may need to build a separate shed to put it in, so I don't have to listen to the noise all the time, and I wouldn't run it all of the time anyway. Also thinking of using a small diesel engine to power it.

I'm thinking the size of the tank is about as important as the compressor
I happened to find a bargain compressor & it has an 80 gallon tank
It is noisy , but I have it in another building that is connected to my shop

A friend of mine built a compressor years ago
Had a tiny little cast iron compressor
And a 3/4 hp motor.......
But the 250 gallon propane tank held a LOT of air !
He painted tractors with no problems

Tank size address's volume before compressor kicks in, and yes it matters. Sand blasting really works a compressor, and will run a compressor hard, causing heat and moisture buildup.
