A bud asked me to look this local Ebay car over...

Post by Phil »

He wanted some parts for his vert and lives 100miles from here.
He wanted to pay like $300 at most. Car is up to $300+ w/ no reserve.

I take pics and the guy comes out and asks me questions about the car.
Says he wants to get $2000.

I told him $300 tops and he's freakin nuts.

Says "oh well, Ill just part it out." Don't you have to actually sell the car if its won on ebay?

The "car" in question

If it's sold without reserve, yes, legally he's supposed to sell it. Good luck holding the idiot to that though.

That looks like the typical car we'd pull from our local junkyards. Ohio, PA...all the same when it comes to rust.

I looked it over pretty good.
I'd guess there are $800 in parts there. 351 2V with all original hoses, clamps and heat riser tube, Ford 9", good vert top bracing (that is often busted on these cars), specific windshield trim, rear roof trim, (non repopped) gas cap, disk setup, hood hinges etc...

...minus the hauling costs, Minus sawzall blade costs, minus the gas burned to ship those parts, minus Ebay and PayPal fees, minus your time and space taken up, minus crating for the windshield (which you can get new, installed for $200 anywhere), minus dr. fees for tetnus shots, minus the inevitable divorce costs etc.
Someday I'll get another slick :(

Heavy: I hope you didn't hurt yourself when you fell down laughing. Can you get some of what that guy's smoking? Never mind, couldn't afford it based on his price/value system. You might want to delete the photos in a day or so, what a waste of bandwidth LOL.

You should have ask if had any weed left?

Scrap is .12 a pound here. The car is probally worth 400 o 500 at the scrap yard.

The high price for scap metal is bad for us.

Damn shame a 70 GT vert ended up in that shape. Agreed the salvageable parts should be used but I doubt he would get more than the $800 you mentioned if he took the time to properly remove the parts and sell them separately. Not uncommon for half of what looks to salvageable to be toast when after you have spent 3 hours getting it off without damaging it.

BTW, I'd like to give kudos for not just "taking pics" of an old rustbucket, but taking "artistically angled" pics of an old rustbucket! :P

I like the way that that beautiful Fairlane keeps ending up in the pics.
