I remember gas wars.....as low as .13 cents a gallon.

Post by winr »

.13 cents was at the run down stations, at the nice places it was .21 cents.

Jeepers Brian, you really know how to depress a guy :(

This remoniscing reminds of the Tim McGraw song called "Way Back When"

It goes ... back when a screw was a screw, the wind was all that blew, when you said I'm down with that, it meant you had the flu, back when hoe was a hoe, coke was a Coke, crack's what you were doing, when you were cracking jokes.

Anyway, you get my point. This world has gone crazy. Bottled water is more expensive than beer and gasoline, starter homes go for 1/4 million, pickups cost 80G, and my 6 year old wants a friggin I-pod.

I read somewhere when diesel was .03 a gallon that Moses got paid 20 cents a day to be the captain of the ark. Plus a premium of .05 cents a day for each other person to take care of the animals.
Seriously the issue of the rising fuel prices is not the problem. Prices normally go up. The problem is the rate of everything going up and wages stagnant or going down. In 2003 I got laid off. I was getting paid 60-70 % more than I am now. I did have to drive about 60 miles more a day to that job but I was paying only about 1.40 a gallon. So that still means I am paying more today driving less and getting paid less than in 2003. And these mindless yahoos in DC can't figure out why most people think we are in a recession. Personally I think that each of these elected officials should be evaluated each year by a group of people from their district. If they get a unsatisfactory rating they get canned. And it should be done by Donald Trump and shown on live TV.

I just heard that a major trucking company say when fuel hits $5.00 a gal they will park all their trucks. That will hurt everyone. But we might get some action on using our own oil.

I remember .25 a gallon too. I am seriously considering trading in or selling my V6 vert for a motorcycle to save gas. I want a bike anyway but was going to wait a couple years. Bad thing is I could make a $180 a month bike payment (looking more like $80 a month though) and still be ahead over all at $3.45 a gallon.

I was negative 11. Mom was 10 in 1962 & I'm the youngest of three  .

Gased up this morning. $3.79

There is a gas station on my way to work that has been closed, I'm guessing, about 10 - 15 years. The deisel sign still says just over a buck per gallon.

I was 10 when mine was built.
6 years later I bought my first truck, a 63 uni. gas was so cheap I could have a decent night for 5 bucks. I was making about 1.00 an hour working in a coffin factory.
Now I'm 52, 10 bucks wont get me to the store with enough left over to buy anything. Now I'm workin for ten times that amount and I cant afford a coffin!
Thats why Ive decided I'm going to live till I'm 120, it's the only chance I have of making enough to finish my truck!

Right now I don't feel quite so bad that my Aquamax is on mothballs, it gets worse mileage than my '93 2.5 Dodge Shadow does!
