Drill a hole in your emergency latch (Falcon shown but a slick is very similar).
use a hitch pin or padlock through the hole, and save expensive hood, windshield, and underwear repair

Not very common. Usually it happens when the latch assembly is misajusted or worn.

Every one of these I've owned has had the preverbial dent in the middle of the hood from a windshield kiss. Happened to me last week.

The hood coming loose is a more common problem than should be. Nothing like driving down the road at 70 mph to suddenly have to stick your head out the window so you can find someplace to pull off the road while you shut it down. Scare the hell out of you.and do some seious damage to the cowl and roof.

I installed a positive latched, inside the cab pull type setup on mine. Came from a 77 ? GM pickup. Just had to make a mount for it down in the hole. Works with the stock loop already on the hood. A side benefit is that as long as the doors are locked, they cant get under the hood.

I installed a hood lock (chain w/lock receiver found on Ebay for about $5) for security. Also will stop the hood from surprising you out on the interstate.

As much as I hate to refer people to "that other site", here's an article with photos on converting the repro core support to fit a '66 which would also be similar for a '65.

I drilled a hole as stated and keep a lock in mine, it's no problem to stick my hand in there to unlock.

Could you perhaps provide an item number or link? I was not able to find what I thought you described.

Mine will do 70 to 80 and get 20 mpg. Somebody before me put a 2.75 axle under there. Don't ask it to pull more than itself, though. As far as pulling goes, as an ex-partner liked to say, it wouldn't pull a greased string out of a cat's you-know-what.

Is there a photo of where to drill the hole in the emergency latch? Also what keeps the emergency latch from moving?

Answer to both questions: depends on the lock! Find a big lock which will not fit through the slot when mounted laterally across the emergency latch, mark and drill a hole low enough for easy access, but not low enough to be easily visible. The latch will be able to move somewhat, but will be unable to dislodge itself from the slot.

I just used a small aluminum carabiner instead of a lock to keep the latch from pulling through the hole. Works and is real easy to remove but obviously wont provide security against theft.
