Low milage farm truck 1966 F-250

Post by Sixfootfour »

I'm a new member here. I bought this original 66 slick from a fellow in a local town who was selling the family farm and wanted to "get rid of ". the old truck. I was the first one to answer the ad in the paper, and drove out to see it. He wanted $700 ( Canadian) for the 352 -4 speed Custom cab, so we put in a battery, it started up and drove around and I gave him the cash. He said he had a lot of calls the next day, but I scooped it. The grille has no cracks, but some dents, so I got on the net, and found one in Georgia USA, in good shape, freight cost as much as the part. If you are from Newport News, thanks for the grille. I will post some photos when I figure out how to load them. How does that Photobucket work?

Well, I'm getting the photobucket to work. There's a picture of the 390 that I put in the truck. It's biult with Comp cam, Streetmaster intake (another forum says they are the best), and came with the carb, dist, and power steering pump. One of the guys in the 4x4 club built it and rolled his truck the first year. They pulled the good parts and scrapped the body(78 Ford). The 352 is still good, but the 390 has a C-6 behind it and Custom built torque converter. I am going to paint the valve covers gold, and add power steering

I,m working on the body and power train, the tailgate was bent, low milage, but a hard farm life. This is a 70's gate, and a bumper from the junkyard. There were 2 66 tailgates in the junkyard, better than mine but rusty, but this one looks ok, the lettering is a little different. I got a set of NOS 1966 licence plates at a swap meet.

I'm putting in my own exhaust, using a Mustang 2 1/2 inch tailpipe mandrel bent, slightly modified. I removed the exhaust flapper valve under the left manifold, more mods, and when I put on the manifold to clear the power steering, some more . I'm just using a single 2 1/2 pipe, and one muffler, should be fairly quiet, I hope.Image

The 71 Mustang gas tank fit right in place. I put a new one in my 71 Cobra-jet 429, and I had this one available. I removed the tank from the cab and want to move the seat back a little for leg room.

I got busy doing other things, like work, and didn't get much done on the truck. I did install a one piece driveshaft,( out of a Torino). I removed the steady bearing mount, and the rest was straight forward. The slip joint slid right in the C-6, but the rear end u-joint did not match up. I could have bought an adapter joint, but I cut the end off, and got another end at a driveshaft shop, and welded it on.
The truck is now at a shop getting new brake lines for the dual power brakes. They have the flaring tools, and know how to use them.

The power brakes work, and the power steering.
I replaced the cab corners last weekend, and replaced the wheelhouses this weekend. They were dented , so when I replaced them I installed the new set 2 inches wider. If I need a wider tire there's lots of room now.

You just can't load a sheet of plywood in the box. MIG welded the wheelhouses, and want to get it painted, now all the welding is done.

Image There's the driveshaft, from a Torino, and fit really well. The wheelbase of these Fords must be similar, or I just lucked out. I have driven it a bit and it seems to balance OK.

Image The wheelwells were beat up and rust on the sides
of the bed floor. I put these in about 2 inches offset.
Bigger tires, no problem.

Image There's the old tank from the 71 Mustang in it's new home. I need to make a hinged cover of some type. I shortened the filler neck, so it sits below the bed.

I like the tank and the idea of keeping it all below the bedfloor. The truck is coming along nice... :thumright: ... Keep up the good work and keep those pics coming....

Image These wheels and tires are 16 inch from a newer truck. They are wider, and bigger around. TImagehe hubcaps fit.

The mirrors were missing, but these repops fit right in, at least no one drilled holes to mount some other mirrors.
