I would not be able to live with my 17 year old daughter if I did not say Carl Edwards, but I really like him to.

Look what happened to Mark after he anounced he was going to the other side, avg.ed, what, 30th place. He should have retired when he said he would with Rusty and drive his truck like he said. Can't root for a chevy.

NASCAR has thrown me under the Bus. . . .I'm Done with them. It's a shame too, they really used to be the best. . . .

Now a days seems Sand Bagging wins championships, everybody has the same car (virtually anyway). It's all about the $$$$$$$$$$$ and "Show BIZ Hype. I knew it was going all to H*** when they stopped racing on the beach here, well not really, but when they went where they went after Y2K.

BUT Now Toyotas? :dontknow: :nono:
And then, Next year, the car of the future?. . . . :bs: Yeah Right.

It's an insult to "Run What Ya Brung" racers everywhere anymore :peepwall:

Hey you hadda ask so heres' my :2cents: on the demise of a great venue :hm:

Ok don;t laugh but i am a Pettty Fan have been for 40 years and I aint changing . I remember when the King signed his first major sponsershio deal with Andy Granatelli at STP and painted the red on his car with the famouse Petty Blue. Petty was instrumental on bringing advertising sponsers into Nascar.I agree there should be some run-what-ya-brung races. and get rid of the cry babies they have running today. The true greats of Nascar are not running anymore , Petty, Yarbourough, Pearson, The Allison Brothers, Gant, ,Baker and many more.........Kid

Kid,
Yer right on point there. . . all the "real racers" the King incuded can not compete with the Corporate Bucks, multi car team efforts, and racing conglomerates, etc. etc. It seems progress & "success" has stunk up the show again.

I'm still in therapy over the tearing down of Smokeys Yunicks "Best Dam Garage In Town" last year, Dayt Bch just had to have another Condo for a time share, ya know.

Where did all the racers go? long time passing. . . .
Where did all the fast cars go? long time passing . . .
Where has the competition gone, Gone GONE... long time passing
Gone to stock holders everywhere, long time passing, long time ago. . . . . yatta yatta yatta. . . :(

My county "gave" Bill France a "Tax Free" deal on his new Daytona Bch Facility back in 59. Nascar does not pay county taxes here as a result. The notion being when NASCARs "dream" matured they 'd "share wealth" with the benevolent folks here in Volusia County who gave them their start.
So to Pay us back NASCAR built their "Hall of Fame" in Charlotte NC, and why was that, you may ask . . .? Simple because that's where all the money is, seeing as the Queen City has now become a financial mecca in the "new South". . .

Hey FBp, so what's the in-town skinny on girly boy Brian France's "get away DIU" fiasco with the parked car and the palm tree? By the way I was in your neck of thewoods for a family reunion in mid DEC. Long story, but after the family Christmas part at my aunts house, some cousins and I got asked to leave a Chillies due to one cousins behavior! Fortunatly for us our hotel shared the same parking lot!

Sorry boyz ,I will have to get in the oldfart line with kid, Lyman and Fbp I guess. Haven't seriously watched NASCAR since Ford ran Thunderbirds.... really since AMC ran Matadors

Soon as they started allowing cars in a configuration you couldn't get from the factory (Think that was the Chebby Lumina FWD to start with) I lost interest. Not that I don't watch, just not too regularly, however I do have great respect for what Rousch has done for Fords.

This Car of the Future thing is kind of the last nail in the coffin as far as my interest in Nascar goes. Basically,to me it's a big IROC now. Hopefully another race league that actually runs the cars in actual configuration makes it big, soon, to replace the clones.

and. Toyota belongs in Stock car racing like I belong in a Victoria's Secret store
It's a race.. Will hell freeze over or will JC finish his truck first. Stay tuned..

Hey F-Zilla,
Same ol' crap, it's called P-O-L-I-T-I-C-S!
"BF" Is connected up to locals and everybody else is not. D-Bch didn't get a "test result" on "BF" in the alotted time, so "No Case". I Mean a France couldn't do anything "wrong" doncha know. If it was you/ I they'd have made up test results & a case. The Palm Tree & shrubery will heal, Insurance will pay for the damaged Vehicles and "BF" gets no Blot on his record, other than his lifestyle of course.

If you know where Ponce Inlet is, the Chief of Ponce PD was followed by a roller from his dept. weaving & wandering, going slow & then fast. When stopped, he had a hell of a time standing up straight or walking a straight line. There was a video tape taken by the apprehending cruiser dash cam, it was on Local TV! Seems the poor Chief was just very tired from partying beachside too long & too late . . . . .. Yeah Right!

DBPD also makes a killing during Speed Weeks, Rolex 24, Daytons 500, the ol' Firecracker 400 [now Pepsi 400] (thank you very much #24). Same thing goes on during the Turkey Rod Run & Speedway Spectacular, Bike Week & Biketoberfest too. I think it's called "Selective Justice Economics".

I had a Hogley with Baffled Pipes, it was quiet. I got pulled on Bike Weeks & cited for a "Loud Exhaust ". Now I'd ride all year long & only time I'd ever get cited for equipment violations is during BiketOberfest or Bike Week . Go Figure that? I'm just not "Connectd" to anything or anybody, just another Bozo on the Beach so to say. That Makes me a fish in a Barrel sort of. So it's either get connected or work out trying to "keep it down by behaving". Not fair, but it is reality. People, especially out of towners will take a $100- $200 hit, plead guilty or no contest, and go on their way. Otherwise it's $500 or $1K Bail or else sit in the Hoosegow until trial which could be 30 days. . . . They have no choice.

BUT I'll tell ya this around here, if you don't attract attention to yourself, don't stand out in a crowd, & sort of fly under the radar, y'all will do fine following that guideline, or we locals have learned to anyhow.

There are many reasons I chose to reside here in the central east coast area of Florida, and you better believe Automotive interests had a big part.
We could sit on the dunes & watch stock cars, actually made from STOCK cars anybody could buy, race along the beach! In fact anybody who passed tech Inspection could also race on the beach . . .

Then there was The "Birth Place of Speed Museum up at Ormond Beach, where they held time trials (an activity now known as "Drag Racing") on Ormond Beach itself. . . . I'm not saying this was the living end of racing, but for it's time it was way ahead of what ever was in 2nd Place.

We also had Beach Buggies (very similar to todays Dune Buggies) except we used real cars, cut down, and bodyless. There was Gator Back trail thru' where Interstate 4 now is, w'ed off road & Mud Race on. There were MX'ers on BSA 440 Victors, Husquevarnas & so forth.
Now it's all commercialized, canned, high priced, show biz. You need NSA & CIA papers to get into the fray. . . . The day of "walk-On racers is dead just like the day of actual OEM built vehicles. :(

It's turning into "latemodel racing" where Formula Built, hybrid, specialty cars only will race. . . . isn't that also champ cars, formula cars, IRL cars as well as IROC ? It sure as hell aint run what ya brung if ya pass the tech inspection racing. :x

Nobody stops racin' to duke it out in a infield anymore, and "pit crews" are teams of athletes that train just to be "pit crew members". They don't repair squat! They Duct tape & bailing wire the qwik fixes but if there's a problem it goes back to the "garage" where the trained wrenches have at it in multi million dollar equipped trailer & bays. . . . . . Do I want to watch that? Nah it'a just another commercially produced "Show Biz Event" and when the biggest sandbaggers inthe field can get the championship trophy for excellent sand bagging, who needs it? It's another human cartoon thing IMHO. :hm: :arse: :woohoo: Oh BTW I heard cheap seats for '07 500 will start @ $125 each.
I gotta sit down & shut up, my blood pressure will exceed the limit here soon. . . . :peepwall:

If I remember that a race is on TV (not cable) and I watch it, I root for #21, the Wood Brothers, whoever is driving.
