factory engine colors?

Post by NJ2000R »

what is the correct engine color or color combo for a 63 with a 292? my engine was painted ford dark blue by the builder when it was rebuilt in 1984, but now that the truck is totally apart, I may as well make it right....not that there is anything wrong with ford dark blue :)

and while we're at it, what about the trans, tc, and axles? everything is a nice shade of rust, so I cant tell if they were ever painted or not....

the underside runnign gear was probably not painted.

I have seen Y-blocks painted Ford red and black valve covers, and all Ford red. Not sure which is correct for '63
It's a race.. Will hell freeze over or will JC finish his truck first. Stay tuned..

I agree, it was probably either coated with cosmoline, or sprayed with black primer type stuff like they did in the 80's. I remember new trucks in the 80's had black rear ends, springs, etc & nowdays they all look like they were never painted.
Whatever it was, it didn't last very long.

I know for a fact that my 66 fairlane rear axle housing was black and the pumpkin red oxide primer, leaf springs natural, some front suspension parts were natural and some black, and being a unibody, the underside was red oxide primer with paint overspray....pretty much the same with my 78 bronco....both are dry climate, low milage, unmolested vehicles....its nice to be able to see what it looked like when it was originally built....most northeast vehicles are rotted to heck from road salt exposure....
