Custom cab ID??

Post by Satinblack »

So my 63 has handles that say custom cab. Was it an option to either have the handles or the script on door in 63?

Nope. The '63's did not have the door script, and had the handles instead. They are correct for '63's. (only, I believe)

Lots of guys put both on but I personally think it's too much.

63 is the first year for the scratch guards.

They are not a factory instaled option.

They were added by the dealer to spiff up the truck or upon order by the customer.

The script "custom cab" came from the factory based on the door stamping and the model designation of "B" for custom cab. IE 66A is a uni base cab and 66B is a custom cab.

JC they are correct for any truck produced in 63 64 65 or 66.

So your saying my truck is not a factory custom cab? Since it doesnt have the script?

So Big back window is an option for standard and custom cabs?

Two tone paint is standard and custom?

So for 63 I just look at number 66A not a custom cab

66B is a custom cab?

It does not need the script to be a custom cab.

It can have the stainless windshield trim and a chrome dash. And with Unis there is NO means of telling a big window from a small window by the model or DSO. In 63 Custom cabs could also have the side aluminum trim some do some dont.

It can have any combination of the thousands of parts out of the accessory catalouge. Key word being Accessory...Dealer added value so he could upgrade and sell it foe more money.

A means Standard cab
B means Custom cab

The Letters are factory refrence only. You can have a dealer prepped plain jane A with all the custom cab goodies installed.

The Two tone on unis for 61 through 63 does not mean its a custom cab as i have owned both custom cab two tone and non custom cab 2 tone uni bodies. Look in the paint section of the warranty tag. IF it has 2 letters its a factory painted 2 tone. One letter means it was spiffed up at the dealer. Some times it will have no letters in the paint code which means a special order paint. (non standard for the line")

And No there are no build sheets to be found stuck under the seat like friggin MOPARS......What ever was offered in that year in the accessory catalouge was fair game to be installed.

Brother John... I had purchased a 63 long bed split model 81B that had both the door scratch guards and the scripts......yes redundant, but the dealer added them or the customer asked for scrath guards while browsing the accessory catalouge.
