I received an email from a XL F100 victim!

The below email forwarded from Chuck B from a guy who read the article in Legendary Ford.

Enjoy! :steering:

WK

Hi,My name is Bill Dismuke and I live in Donalsonville Georgia I had forgotten about the F100 XL until about a year ago and I saw an article in ,I think it was Legendary Ford magazine.I only saw the truck once and raced against it once.I think it was Labor day weekend of 1963 at US19 Dragway at Abany Ga.I had a '63 R code boxtop,300 sedan and it was pretty fast.Well,to make a long story short, the XL beat everyone there that day, loaded it back on the trailer and we never saw it again. It was a bad boy and that's putting it mildly. Thanks,

:thumright: :thumright: :thumright: Did Bill already own it by then?

PS Wayne do you think a guy could still get a back issue of that mag?
It's a race.. Will hell freeze over or will JC finish his truck first. Stay tuned..

Not sure who owned the truck at that time. It could have been still on factory tour by DST and company!

WK.
Believe it or not, Bill Dismuke is an old drinking buddy of mine from years past. I haven't heard that name since I went off to college in 1964.
If you could put him in touch with me I would appreciate it.
Yes, he is a living legend and the old box top was fast.
The 409 guys hated to see him show up, and he cleaned my '623x2 4-speed 406's clock a couple of times too.
I didn't see him race the XL, but I heard about it. Man, did I hear about it.
We followed him all over south Georgia and north Florida to little drag strips.
Ask him if he remembers Skip Porterfield and Danny Pope from Albany; and the mountaineer hats, overhauls, bare feet, gallon jugs of root beer and burbon, and Panama City Beach. Somewhere I still have the pictures.
Thanks bud.

Guys,
I didn`t buy the XL until Oct of 63 , was being run by Jack Whitby
at that time and the guy that Jack had tuning it was making it slower all of the time. When Jack got the truck it was running 13.1 & .2 When I got it , it was running 13.3 &.4 . 2 weeks after I got it , I had it back to 13.1`s consistently . I remember that Jack took the truck down south , just before I got it . He said that they did "right good". I was waiting for my Thunderbolt at that time.
Bill.

I was not going to say anything about this until i had a reply but i have a good friend whose father worked at Ford as a lithographer and was responsible for all the dealer brochures and advertising back in the 60s and 70s.i recently e-mailed my friend the F100XL page and she was going to forward it to her dad and see if he still has anything from those days, or remembers doing any of the ads for the slicks and the XL.i got a reply that he is currently on vacation for a couple months so it may be a while before i hear back from him.anything i find out i will of course post when i get it.

Well i received my copy of Legendary Fords today and the artical on the XL was nice to read and has good pics. They also mentioned Slick60's. It was worth the price.

Don't know if Bill Dismuke kept his old box top 427 sedan, but he does still has his T-bolt.
Ladies and gentlemen, you may never again see a collection of horse power like this in one place again.

Just came back from my friends shop up close to Amarillo, he has a T Bolt clone he just finished. He would not take it out for a drive but he did fire it up, that 427 sounded mean and the race gas smelled great.

When I got home my XL 100 issue of Legendary Ford was on the counter. Man it was a good day!
