Getting back on the 66

Post by jeffs66 »

I'm back. What with Christmas and other things going on I haven't been able to work on the 66. But, I managed (with my Wife's help) to get the truck into the shop and get the motor mounts finished up. I cut down the Lincoln trans X-member and bolted it to the tranny but, it's just sitting in the frame rails at the moment.

I removed the Lincoln wiring harness just to find is was pretty ratty. So, I searched around and found someone on ebay selling the harnesses for a couple hundred bucks. Cleaned, devoid of unused wires and nicely labeled for splicing into the trucks harness. I got it yesterday and I'll get started on Saturday.

One question:
On setting the trans crossmember, how do I level the engine? I don't want to take the injection stuff off the top. Can I just put a level on top of the manifold or should I find the angle of the rear pinion and match the rear of the tranny to that?

Well, the Wife is calling "dinner" so...

Thanks,
Jeff

Jeff.
That's the beauty of EFI. There is no float level to contend with. Just put a level on the top of the plenum and go from there.
Close is good enough.
Glad you're back on the project.

Well, it looks like I got a MAF harness for my SD engine.
Rats!
I guess I might as well convert to MAF since I have the harness already.
I'll have to get a MAF sensor and computer now.
If it ain't one thing it's another.

A friend of mine just bought a 91 Mustang LX with the HO engine.
He's converting to a carb and I told him to save me all the injection stuff.
We'll see how that works out.

I've been removing some of the stuff from the engine.
Smog pump, A/C compressor etc.
Not much to report thus far.

Can I use the Lincoln power steering pump with a box for a 66?

SD to Mass Air Conversion

Jeff66, Check out www.FordMuscle.com They have an article on SD to MAF conversion you may want to look at before looking for another harness. It may be cheaper to go thier way.
