Texas Convoy

Post by Michelle »

When are you guys from Houston leaving? I was thinking of leaving Monday or Tuesday, staying over night in Oklahoma or Kansas and driving on in the next day. Let me know what you are thinking.

Warning, the big N's average speed is 60, 65 MPH. It has long legs and will run up to 80 going down hill, but eventually you have to start back up and if it is a long hill it will drag down to 50. For the most part I can drag along at 60 and 65.

Was the old school bus short on legs? The N is geared pretty high with a 3:91 rear and the thirteen over tranny, but the 220 Cummins is a little short on power as comapired to the trucks of today.

Your probably right about that. The 600 would push it on down the road at a pretty good clip. Here is a U-Tube link to a ride in the N. I was leaving Emporia Kansas heading north on I 35 threading my way through some construction and my friend was filming and did not tell me until later.

actually we were calling it the yellow submarine because we were living in it.

Michelle,
it was not the gears so much as the politician (governor) under the carb that made for tough hill climbing and 65 mph wide open on flat ground.

I bet you eventually pulled off the side of the road and disabled it and got on with your business. Something like that would have drove me crazy.

Cam, the N is much nicer in person. The pictures and video do not do it justice. See you at Slickstock! Thanks, Lyman.
