What are the extra holes in the front of the cowl for?
Honey, If I say I`ll fix something I will, there`s no need to remind me every 6 months!!

Not really so different here. A lot of hi performance rigs use the high pressure air at the cowl to supply intake air.
Pretty certain all NASCAR rigs run a similar setup.
Same principal was the basis for Chevtolet's "cowl induction hoods" on Camaros and Chevelles in the late 60's and early 70'6.
Shucks, look at the "backwards" placement of the hood scoops on the big Slick trucks.

Thanks Roger!, I would of thought it would want to suck air out rather than in!, but it doesn`t buy the look of it!, still learning at 57!

It wasnt uncommon to see alot of cars in the 60s and 70s with spacers on the rear hood hinge bolts to get the back of the hood raised up to work as cowl induction. This was the poor mans induction system. I remember seeing it on alot of cars.

The only good chevy block is a rusted dead weight chevy block. Ha HaMctim64 wrote:Changed heads out today. These are the 113s that Greg Gordon donated to the "Cause". I hope I have done some of my better port work on these along with some work to the Mummert intake to make everything match up right. We'll see how it all works out in two weeks at El Mirage.![]()
I also took the advise of some of my scrub friends that said the only way to make it go fast was to install an sbc. I did! It makes for a good 240 lbs of dead weight for traction.
Ted, you will get your parts back soon.
Just curious did you block off the air vents into the cab on the kick panels that get their air from the cowl. I wonder what difference it would make if any. Suspect it might as you may loose some of your ram air down through those.

Now your talking my era!, we did that to our cars back then!, only we thought it was to let the hot air out, i`m sure some of them were that high you could see the radiator support though it!

It was also sujjested!, that you could give it a squirt of air freshener through there too!Mctim64 wrote:Just think of how the air blows in when you open the vents. All I do is close them when I make a run.

Had a real good weekend. Spent all of Friday getting the "new rig" ready, drove down to Elmo in the rain at midnight with no promise of good weather to race in then had one of the best meets ever! Less cars means more runs for me! Five passes, faster the second day than the first, with nothing broken. Good times.

Ran a best of 126.5, no shame, I wanted 130 before the season was out but the truck ran good and strong. I can't help the fact that with a 150 line # the coarse is all tore up by the time I get to it.

Jake and the "Brew 102" car. Two good ol' Fords. The '53 Customline is running a 262 Ford six, did a best of 120 in XO/PRO.

This is Land Speed Racing! Modifying parts in the field. Jackie is doing her job also, note the tennis ball in her mouth.

Now the air box fits the Mummert intake.
