Here are some questions I've got for you:Yes to the cross member in the rear and the frame rails in the front. I could have done a little better at hanger placement for looks but it works well.
- You just bolted your tank frame to the bottom of the truck frame?
I had to remove a cross member that was right in the middle. I believe it may have been extra due to the camper special. The two cross members on either side were spaced almost perfectly. However some trimming of the frame rails was needed as well.
- Did you have to move any of the frame cross-members?
Yes. Galvanized but ended up POR ing it so that was overkill.
- Is that 1" square tubing you used?
Not sure, thin enough to bend by hand but hammer needed to get a sharp bend.
- What thickness of metal did you make the tabs/brackets out of?
- Did you weld the heads of the bolts to the topside of the frame/cross-member so they wouldn't turn? Or were you able to figure out a way to get a wrench in on them?
I found some plastic spacers that I needed to drill to fit, when I screwed them onto the bolts (before the tank was in place) they were tight enough to hold the bolts in place. Nuts and lock washers went on tight.
- What did you use and where did you get the hardware for the filler neck and cap?[/list
Gas cap and bung came from bikers choice. Filler tube was supplied with the tank. Kentucky mustang flea-bay.
I need to find some flexible filler hose in order to make the bend and then some wood for the bed.
Hope that helped...
Cheers,
Dion

Thanks dcombs. More room for tunes. Didn't like the sloshing of fuel behind me. No fumes, but that is another common reason. Oh, did I mention 22gallons for the new tank. More driving less pumping!

Re: The Bluebird build thread 66 F100 Camper Special
Alright, doors are done and WOW! What a thud. I will try and post up some vids of what it sounded like before and after. Heres a few pics for now...
Used card board to create a template for inside the door
Here's the MLV and CCF pattern for the door
A few of the CLD tiles, I ended up using about 6 for each door. Inner and Outer skin pieces were cut to fit.
I also fut a layer of CCF to fit behind the upper panel with a few loose squares underneath to give it a solid fit. I was surprised at how loud this piece was without any noise suppressor.
I have now turned my attention to the interior, seat and carpet removed.

Wow!
It looks like a great build. Nice shiny new paint.
Don't know how I missed your build before but it sounds great. Any chance of reloading the pics?

I still have some of the pics on my hard drive that I could post, but not all. I sure would trade some of this rainy NC weather for some of that CA sunshine right about now!
