Truckrat's Flatbed
Here is one of my two flatbeds that I have for my 65 project truck.
It is sitting on an old trailer frame made out of a mid 50s Ford truck.
Makes a good hauler for bulky objects and still has shocks on it, so it rides good.
I am hauling a short flareside bed to Pate on it in a couple of weeks.
Got new tail lights for it and have to swap out some tires for it.
Might even spray a coat of paint on it just to clean it up a bit. TR

I picked up a couple of wheels a while back for the rear axle on the flattie.
They are 15x10 steelies and I believe they are Wheel Vintiques or maybe Stocktons.
My Ford innie caps were to big to fit them, so back a week ago last friday when Brian Taylor
came by we went to Classic Auto here in OKC and they had some
on the shelf that measured about a half inch smaller in size than my Ford ones and I got them.
Brought 'em home and snapped 'em on and they fit. Yeehaw!
These wheels (the other one looks the same) look a lot worse in these shots than they are,
and I will bead blast these and get some primer and paint on them.
No fenderwells under a flatbed, so anything will fit under there. TR
Front and back spacing seems to be about equal with maybe a slight bit more to the back.
Tried it on the rear axle a while back and it was real close to the emergency brake cable,
so will have to pull it in a bit for clearance.
This is the only marking I could find on the wheel to try and identify where it came from.

I have a set of these late 40s Ford caps I want to use on the Flattie, and now I have two more to fit the aftermarket wheels.
The Ford caps are 8 inches across on the back side and the aftermarket ones are about 7.5.
Not much difference between the two, Ford cap is on the left.

Re: Truckrat's Flatbed
I did some bead blasting yesterday. A pair of headlight rings
Before and after.....
and a 15x10 inch wheel like this one....
Had been too cold to do any painting until yesterday. Sprayed primer on this one and
gloss black on the tire mounting area between the beads. Supposed to be 70 degrees here
today, so will prime the mate to this one and paint it too.

Gary, The parts look great. Everybody should have a sandblast or beadblast cabinet available for their use. They sure makes things easier.

Re: Truckrat's Flatbed
Finally got around to getting some paint on one of these wheels.
I used an Aquamarine color as close as I could get to the shade I plan to use
on the upper half of the cab and hood.
This is Krylon, but it is real close. Wait til I get the caps and rings on it. TR

Re: Truckrat's Flatbed
Those wheels are gonna look awesome! I am planning on doing the same on my dodge. Is that a 56 in the back ground in the pic with flat bed?

Re: Truckrat's Flatbed
Yes it is a 56 which I have had since the mid 90s. Needs some steering and frontend work done so I am thinking about doing some upgrades on it. The engine/trans. in it is coming out (460/C6) to be used in my 65 Flatbed. Then I want to put some monoleafs or superslide springs on the front with a power steering box and maybe a 3 inch dropped axle. TR

Re: Truckrat's Flatbed
I've had some fence building to do and now that it is nice weather I can get back to working on the flattie.
Lots of things to get done there, so will be working on the sheetmetal to get it ready to bolt on the truck when it is time.
Fenders, inner wheelwells, core support, grill, bumper, and stone guard all need attention.
I wish I could take them to work and prep them when it is slow since I do a lot of that at work, only on aircraft parts.
Might try and sneak a few pieces in every once in a while when possible. Lol! TR
