who has pics of a slick with TRUE REVERSED chrome wheels?
Hey guys,
Im looking for pics and info for a real reversed chrome wheel, not any of the smoothie BS that people are now calling reversed wheels.
I know what im going to use up front, just a chrome OE wheel either 6 or 7 inches wide, but out back im not sure what will fit. Im looking at either 7s or 8s, reversed, and a 255/60/15 tire and maybe later on the road a slightly taller tire then that. Any pics and or info would be great. Thanks guys.

Re: who has pics of a slick with TRUE REVERSED chrome wheels
this is how to reverse a wheel.
http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/show ... &showall=1
this is a boat load of pics but none of our trucks
http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/show ... &showall=1
there is a big difference between a regular chrome wheel and one thats reversed. The backspacing is normally around 2 inches and it makes the wheel have a deeper dish.
So do we have anyone out there with a set that can give me some information?

Re: who has pics of a slick with TRUE REVERSED chrome wheels
I think you may want to go back to go back to the Hamb and do some more researching because you are mistaken about what makes a reverse wheel is based on the description you posted. Reversing wheel usually does not have anything to do with backspacing. It can have a deep offset but it can also have no offset depending on what the person building it was trying to do. Most wheels that get reversed end up near or the same as the original backspacing but the point of reversing it is the smoothing of the wheel. A reverse wheel simply has the flatter area to the outside instead of the inside and it can be a 0 offset or a 5 inch offset depending on how or what you were doing. It is true that there are plenty of them that end up with a positive offset but back in the day that was not true (but then they were 4.5 wide and you couldn't get much if you wanted to!) and also wasn't the point of doing it just a potential benefit. Your first link shows a real reverse wheel being made and you will note he is adjusting the offset to fit his need but his point about the look is what it was all about back in the day. What they call (as you put it) "smoothie BS that people are now calling reversed wheels" are called that because that is what they are, they are regular wheels that the wheel company welds together "backwards" to make them smoother. BTW, there is a front and a back to a rim and it has to do with how a tire is mounted and dismounted and many shops hate reversed rims because you can screw them up if you are not paying attention and they have a deep offset. Nearly 40 years ago we had a bent one hanging on the wall to remind us to get it right in the tire shop! Hawkrodshocker998md wrote:this is how to reverse a wheel.

Shocker. Give Hawk Rod a pass. Its just who and what he is.
Google Wheel Vintiques and look at their products. They have some good examples and can give you any offset you want. In fact, I'm putting powder coated red reversed "smoothie" wheels with baby moons on my truck.
*Wheel Vintiques website is under construction right now. Try Jegs...

You are likely gonna pay Stockton or make your own.
An old school set of "Chromed Steelies" isn't gonna be common in todays world.
Chris found some 15x8 stock wheels that fit - if you can find them they could be chromed.
Originally there were no aftermarket chromed wheels - people had stock wheels plated.
You pretty much only found them on the higher dollar hot rods though - average kid building it in the driveway painted his wheels.

Back when dirt still had a shine to it!, the VW beetle guys would put their wheels on backwards, mainly to get a cheap widened look. the way you all explain it, sounds more like the soft lip style!. only throw small stones please!!
Honey, If I say I`ll fix something I will, there`s no need to remind me every 6 months!!

Re: who has pics of a slick with TRUE REVERSED chrome wheels
Older dodge trucks and jeeps had steelies that were wide/offset I have use a few sets as rears,8in wide with 275 60 15 and its fills and snugs nice, styleside bed, either have truck high on jack or no air in tire to install.have one set left, am thinkin a 10in wide rim will fit stepside fenders with same tire, and have some mounted up, but not under bed, dependin on offset and have 3 in wider stepside fenders available, you could really get a footprint, but I know us stepside guys are a minority around here,lol..... I would think with the right tools and weldin skillls you could reverse or offset some steelies any way the big boys charge for...I may mess with somethinlike that after I finish healin.. leg is much better, am on lyrica but foot would is still ugly mess and slow to close...I cant stay totally off it like doc wants, ya can;t hold crutches, beer and pee at the same time, lmao
Yep, this is Pete!

Re: who has pics of a slick with TRUE REVERSED chrome wheels
im running the same size wheel and tire right now. I found a set of 7 inch wides that have been reversed so ill do some trial and error with those. Thanks guys
Re: who has pics of a slick with TRUE REVERSED chrome wheels
Sorry, I was not trying to offend or attack, simply explain. I had 49 Merc chrome reverse wheels on my 38 Ford with a 241 hemi, LZ trans and juice brakes back before many here were out of diapers! I still have a 39 Ford Coupe in the garage that I am the second owner of next to my Ariel that I am the original owner of. I have a tendency to over explain and having been there I often forget that others have not. My bad, Hawkrodshocker998md wrote:I just thought most reversed wheels had less backspacing so that it gives it a deeper dish, which it does do that with two inches of backspacing and thats why I like the ones ive seen so much.
