1966 F100's
Hey guys, I'm new here and had been looking for a place to discuss these trucks with other people who have them. My wife has had a 1966 4wd short step for quite a few years and I recently bought a 1966 short fleet to build up as a hotrod. I'm going to go ahead and post the buildup of both trucks here. I'm at my shop at the moment and posting via cell phone but I will add pics when I return home tonight. We are in Nevada. Can't wait to show you folks what we have!

Re: 1966 F100's
Here is the one I just got a few weeks ago. It has an interesting story. It was built at the San Diego Plant in may of 1966 and sold in vegas in May of 1966. Has been in nevada it's whole life and I'm I believe the 4th owner. No rust anywhere. It has a 352 that runs like a clock and a 3 on the tree with a blown first gear. The rear end is oddly a posi dana 44 but the pinion nut was backed off when I got it so the ring and pinion are trashed. I still drive it to work and back if I'm feeling lucky lol. It has no paint code on the vin tag and I can tell it was a silver blue metallic from under the dash. The primer you see is a bad rattle can job over the original paint with no bodywork evident. I have the original owners manual and paperwork from 1966 with the original owners name typed inside the cover under owner info. And best of all I got it pretty cheap!

Re: 1966 F100's
And here is my wifes. It's of course named Old Yeller. I don't know it's story just that it belonged to her dad and that it didn't run when I started dating her and it took me a few hours with wd40 and a rubber shot hammer to unstick the valves from the rotten gas someone ran it with last. After that I went to summit and got new pushrods ( a few bent when I broke the motor loose) and drained and put in fresh fuel and believe it or not it fired right up and runs right now. I must have done that about 12 years ago. I haven't decoded the vin on hers yet I only found the decoder a couple days ago.

Re: 1966 F100's
And thanks for the welcome guys. I'm excited to get building on these. Hers will remain fairly simple with an updated engine and trans and disc brakes etc. And a new paint job. Mine will be a little more involved as I'm going to build and install my own ifs and air ride setup. I'm likely restoring the interior to stock and keeping the 352 but I will install a 9" rear and a C6 and column from an early 70s donor.

Re: 1966 F100's
You nailed it, 84 Gran Fury front, tri-angulated 4 link, coil overs. 302 with an AOD. Chassis is Z'eed front and rear. Once on air bags, but I did not care for the air bag thing, so I changed it. The truck was originally built by a friend of mine. I was building a 55 F100 with a Volare front end and a Lincoln MkVIII rear. He liked my truck and I liked his so we traded. Do you ever get down to the A&W on Wednesday nights? First one coming up May 1st, next Wednesday!

Yeah we do get down there. I'm going to air ride mine but I know what you mean about not caring for it. I have built several bagged trucks. I have a t bird IRS I was thinking of using but I changed my mind and am looking for a 9" to put in mine similar to your setup. I really like the look of your truck.

Re: 1966 F100's
If you get down there, look me up. We will be in the 61 or a yellow 29 Model A pickup. We may also bring our T Bucket if the missus is feeling up to it, as it is going up for sale. Where is your shop located?

Re: 1966 F100's
I know its not a slick but just for reference I hand built the mustang II based front suspension and triangulated 4 link in this. The setup will be very similar in my 66.
