It is retained inside the housing. You will need to remove pan and valve body. If you are putting in an aftermarket shifter, most come with a replacement lever which bolts on externally. If you are converting from a column shift to a floor shift or vice versa; have fun! It's really not much of a job, just a PIA.

If you are talking about the plastic bushing that holds the rod to the shift lever, I use a open end wrench that will fit around the bushing part between the rod and lever. Then pry the rod out of the bushing, If you are using a combination wrench, put a large screwdriver in the box end and twist it to pry the rod out.

Well there is the rod that comes out the side of tranny
And attached to the rod is the bracket the linkage would
Connect to thus when u put it in gear this is the part that
Moves. So I am needing to separate the bracket
And shaft or pin. Sorry I do not know the true name of the parts.

If the C6 is out of a car or a vehicle with a floor shift and you are installing it in a column shifted truck you will need to change the entire shaft. Only arm that comes off is the kick down arm. Like stated earlier you will need to drop the pan and valve body and reinstall the correct shift arm. Not a big deal just a PITA. Easier if the transmission is out? And if you need a different arm check with your local Xmsn shop. IMHO.

Hmmmm!
Well, anyway, Willliam summed it up! If you are going with an aftermarket shifter, you may be able to follow the supplier's instructions and mount the supplied lever without removing the pan. DO NOT attempt to use the OEM arm for an aftermarket cable shifter. It will not work correctly and will probably result in transmission failure.
