1966 F250

Post by ThinLizzy13 »

Went and saw a real solid 66 F250 today I'm probably gunna pick up. 4 SPD I6 300(put in at some point for a 352 I think). 8 lug wheels. Geared wayyyyyy low. Ran good. But the fenders look funny to me. They were telling me they have higher clearance fenders? Does anyone else have a truck with that or know how hard they are to find?

Also here's the link for the truck

I certainly wouldn't call it rare. Not as many 3/4 tons as 1/2 tons, but plenty made and still available.

Can't see the tire size , but those fenders were found on the trucks with the larger diameter wheels, which this one appears to have. The radiused fenders also were found on the 4x4's and larger trucks.
IMO, the (somewhat rarer) larger wheels just add concerns as to cost and availability of replacement tires. I'm sure others have different opinions.

Why does that particular truck have a round speedometer? Were they changed between the F100 and F250? (I'm a learner, sorry for the off topic question)

Only the '65/66 Custom Cabs had the sweep speedos.

Thanks for the info guys.

Also Paul I believe this truck has 16 inch rims. I wasn't sure how hard it would be to find replacements if needed for 8 lugs.

I bought new 16" inchers to replace my 16.5" locally. If needed I have the p/n at work, I can dig up.

Forgive me if this is a dumb question...but would the f250 8 lugs have been 16.5" not just 16"?

the factory rims on my 67 were 16' slit rims.
around here you can buy the later accuride 16 one piece rims from a later (80s-90s) f250/e250 for about 20$ a piece at any junk yard.

Thanks, good to know about the solid rims and different sizes. I think I'm gunna pull the trigger on it. The guy is gunna throw in a tool box and extra bench seat. I'm sure I'll be quite the site on the thruway towing a 66 home with my 74 lol 8)

16.5, 16 & 19.5 too. ( Mrgoob has 19.5" 0n his F250)
As well as 17.5's :?
The fenders would be correct for all but 16" as originally equipped. It's not unusual to find a 47+ year old truck with other than original factory equipment.

My 65 F250 was equipped with 16" safety ring tube type 7.00 tires and the lower 1/2 ton tyle finders. I am 3rd owner, 2nd owner didn't drive it, and it appears to have never been disturbed.

I guess on the plus side there's alot of options for different size rims? haha

I'd like nothing more than to get a new slick and be able to fill the bed up with parts haha Equinunk isn't that far away. I actually drive through Hancock every month to get to Newburgh.
