Parking brake seal

Post by dotcentral »

I posted this at Fordification but didn't get much of a response so far.

Trying to seal up the cab on my off topic 71. NPD carries this: http://www.npdlink.com/store/products/s ... 50112.html

When i was taking the floor mat out of my 66, I found the same seal, so if not the same part it's very similar. Do these work well to seal out the water? Does it have an adhesive on the back side? Just wondering how well it works at sealing water and wind out of the cab. Does anyone have a better solution?

I don't like the stock way of sealing up anything through the cab. My rusted floor boards say that doesn't work to well.

I don't have a better way yet. Mainly because I am not to that point yet.

For stationary parts I like the idea of a very tight fitting rubber grommet with some sealer around it.
For moving parts it has to be a bellows type rubber boot. Trick is finding the right size.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

I will have to cruise the salvage yard and see how it was done on other year and makes of trucks and cars. If I come up with any revelations I will let you all know.

I have one of these laying around. http://www.npdlink.com/store/products/1 ... _year=1967

Wonder if I mod it to fit if it would hold up?

I know that all too well. Drove my 71 home from work in a typical rain shower and had water streaming into the floor from the firewall. Going to have to get out some rubber plugs, grommets and some non-hardening seam sealer and try to stop or minimize that before putting down my insulation and carpet.
