vacuum booster vs hydro-boost?
What are the pros and cons in a vacuum booster vs. the hydro-boost setup for power brakes?
I am starting to think about the brakes for Nick's truck now.
The hydro-boost will use up less space than the vacuum booster. I know that a lot of new cars and trucks are using this setup.

Hydroboost generates a whole lot more pressure and will leave a ton more room around the valve covers that might come in handy with the tall mod motor and the MC in the stock position. Since it's not vacuum-dependent, engine modifications that might affect vacuum are a non-issue.
The only real con is that you have to run hydraulic lines to it and do it correctly, but it's very simple. If I can't get by with a correctly-sized manual MC for my setup, hydroboost will be the next step as I don't want to try to fit a vacuum booster around my 460.

Any recommendations for what hydroboost to use? Mustang?
I have considered putting the complete setup under the floor like I did on mine but I haven't made that final decision yet. I have even considered converting my truck over to hydroboost.
Do the lines go to the hydroboost before of after the power steering rack. I would assume that they go before the steering?
The engine is so wide that I am going to have to use the hydraulic clutch opening instead of the original brake mounts.

I too am interested in which hydroboost to use. I cannot put vacuum on the turk because it will not fit with the hydraulic clutch set up I need to run the t-5 on the y block.
Indy63, The lwb 61 uni with a 460 has plenty of room. but the Po dropped the motor in low, used electric fans and a C6.

I have the hydroboost set up on a 2000 F350. One of the high pressure power steering hoses blew (while my wife was driving it) and not only did she loose power steering but the brakes went to crap as well. Not saying you shouldn't use it, just something to think about.

GM Astro van units are all over the JY, easily adaptable, and the '60s 'vette MCs that all the disc brake kits use bolt right up. Super Duty units are also popular to swap .
I'm mounting my 460 relatively high to clear a Camaro clip with a van oil pan. I haven't built mounts yet, so it's hard to tell just how much room I'll have.

I pulled one off of a 76 Lincoln Continental. Haven't used it yet but, if you can find one too look at it will give you the idea and it's all Ford.

I have a hydro bost on my 64 (with 460 and it gave me a heck of a lot more room above the value cover) and my 65. I used a 2000+ mustang GT boster on both of mine. Others can be adapted easy enough (Heck they are all about the same unit anyhow). The 65 was by far the easiest to create a bracket for, it is a flat square with a few holes in it (Screw and Main hole with key welded in). My 64 I have to do something like the first link below. I sure do like driving both trucks since this upgrade. Also I was looking at rock auto.com and the prices are not much more for new/rebuilt units than what some yards charge for these things (if you can find them). Just a thought
I also made my hoses using the alum ends and braded hoses, racers do it all the time. I love those AN (37 degree flare) fittings, wish they were a little cheaper.

Chris, Thanks for those links. I found the plumbing diagram in there.
I found one today from an 04 Mustang GT. I got the hydroboost, master cylinder and proportioning valve for $50. That seemed like a pretty good deal. The core charges are more than that. The guy also has a set of 67 Mustang bucket seats at another house that he is going to pickup tomorrow that I can look at.

$50 is a heck of a deal. Remember that the MC and prop value are for a all disc setup. I can't remember if you have rear disc on the truck. Good luck on the install should be fairly easy. Also remember to bleed the system after installed.

We put the Jag IRS in Nick's truck so it has the inboard rear disk. That is why I went for the master cylinder and prop valve from the GT.
Those fitting from purechoicemotorsports will probably help. One of the lines is real close the cowl. I already have it mounted onto the firewall, now I just have to get the brake pedal redone.

Just a thought.. you can clock it 180 degrees if you need more clearance. You only have to make sure the MC is in the up right postion.

The guy that I bought the hydroboost from had a pair of 67 Mustang seats with tracks for $75 so we bought those. They bolt right on to Bill's tracks. This will make it simple to mount the seats.
