Oil restrictor plug in FE heads

Post by Uncle Skip »

The book says you're supposed to put a restrictor plug under your rocker arm stand to restrict the flow of oil to the top of the motor and keep it in the bottom of the engine where it needs to be. The hole is ~3/16" in its stock form and the Ford performance builders book says that you should only have a .090" hole.
I know about the Holley .090 jets trick but I don't have any handy and finding a piece of metal to put in the original passageway was starting to be a PITA because I didn't want to have to take my heads off to have them tapped and plugged so I found out that the handle of a #11 Exacto knife (aluminum) is a slip fit for that hole. I cut off 2 pieces about a 1/2" long, dressed the ends flat with a file and pilot drilled a #40 hole and then opened it up to a 7/64" which is .1094". I'm sorry, but I have to admit that the .090 is probably correct, but it looks sooooo small. Anyway, here's the finished product.
