got the 4 speed overdrive tranny WOW what a differance
Thanks for all the responses to my low rear gear questions. I decided to go with the 5 speed or actually a 4 speed overdrive trans. Man it made such a big differance. The granny 4 speed had such a wide range between the gears I had to be careful how the clutch was realesed to keep from jerking my head into the back glass or windshield. this tranny shifts so smooth i feel like im in a newer mustang or something. at 60 to 63 mph im taching about 2000 and at 55 mph only about 1700 so my mpg should get up there .now i gotta get those .73 jets out of my carb and go for smaller ones or maybe just get rid of the 500cfm holley and get a 4 barrel.Of course stay out of the back to barrels YA RIGHT!!!!!

That's what I have been advocating for a long time. More to keep the RPM down than mileage. Should have noticed quite a reduction in the noise level too. OD is a good thing. Sounds like you came out with close to the same final ratio that I did. 3.70 rear with the .73 OD comes out to 2.701, gives me 1925 RPM at 60 and 1765 at 55.

I'm definitely going that route with mine...one of these days.

Not sure what happened to the rest of this thread but that Dodge NV tranny shifts so nice and smooth you'd never know you were driving a truck!
Drove one 1400 miles over 3 mountain ranges to go get my brick

Which trans?
Which transmission did you use? and what is it behind? I have a granny behind a 223 6 and I don't like it at all.
Are you still making the door panels? I'm planning on doing my interior in gray tones (red paint inside and out). Maybe I could send you the fabric to match?

Don't know who you were addressing with your question, but in my 62 with a 223, I used a T5 from a mustang.

Sorry, didn't make it clear did I? I was asking 65 Truck_Nut, but thanks. How difficult a swap was it? Bolt up or did you need a new bell housing/adapter?

Using the kit(Adapter plate, Disk, Pressure Plate, Throwout, & Pilot brg) from Mummert, it was pretty much a bolt up deal. Did have to get a shorter driveshaft and adjust the floorboard(BFH) a little.
Fred
Mummert? Can you help me locate. I "googled" it with no results. Thanks.
