A little more work on my engine compartment-pix!

Post by Phil »

Still need more cleaning, some detail parts painting and rewrap my harness.

Someday I'll tear this thing apart.
I may have some wimbledon white mixed up in rattle cans and do the firewall this fall.

I have a Ford aircleaner coming in the mail next week. Ill get a few engine decals and call it a wrap for a while.

Phil, what did you use to paint the inner fenders? Surely you didn't rattle can them?

Nectar of the gods. Rustoleum #7777 spraypaint.
Let it dry 24 hrs. It dries really smooth. Some 400 wetsanding and a 2nd coat makes it even better.

Krylon dries too fast. It atomizes in the air and makes texture.
That holds dust and dirt. If you can keep the #7777 dust free for 12hours or so it really does a good job. It does dull after a year or so but its durble like no other black.

My painter visited a high end resto shop and they had cases of it. Two guys were spraying a Boss 429 with it so he decided it was good enough for his cars.

 Hey, that's CLEAN!
My compliments to you on your neat job. It gets there eventually when you stay after it. I still have all of that stuff to do on mine. #7777 Rustoleum. I am assuming you mean black. TR

Duplicolor has Wimbledon White in a rattle can, T205W. I used it on my engine compartment and it matched exactly the exterior color when it was finished.
I got it at Autozone, about 5 bucks a can.

Man I wish I hadn't known about that paint. Ive been getting crazy touching up bad spots. Otherwise known as the exterior.

Still not enough energy to tackle the firewall though :?

Couldn't handle the rusty mess so I did the firewall yesterday.
12 hours
Turned out "OK"

Also the doors and sides had these weird rusty areas where a pipe rack or something was attached. I cleaned up the doors and painted em.

Not like I could make em worse :D

Looks great. You obviously have a lots more patience that I do. What did you do unhook the wires, etc., pull them back and wrap them to keep paint off?
If you understand what you’re doing, you’re not learning anything.
