Ricky's 66 F100 build

Post by trickyricky23R »

Finally getting around to starting on my 66 F100 given to me by a friend that passed away months later(i will type up that whole story later)
here is the pics when i picked her up in sept 97(with 1985 tags), and that bush growing out of it is poison ivy. i had that crap for 3MONTHS!
Image
Image
and here it is may 2014 when i dug it out of the bushes at my house

i guess i never really had the money to start the project to the extent i want to in honor of longtime family friend Doug. this truck will NEVER be sold, if i pass and my family(sisters) don't want it, it will go back to Doug's daughters.
i have recently been hindered in searching for a cab because it has extensive rust in the windshield/driprail area, it had it when i brought it to my house in 97, it's just alot worse now.

looking for a cab but would really like to find just a roof, my floors aren't that bad. i'm gonna need a rear bed section(from bodyline back to the taillights, and a hood. pretty sure i can make due with most everything else. i just scored a jag ifs today for $150(no, it was the only one they had). i went and paid for it before they found out what it was worth, will pick it up sat. it will have a '01 crown vic 4.6 and auto in it(price-FREE)
i will very soon have a lot of the stock parts for sale; bench, front i beams, rear axle housing and axles, gas tank, steel h/l bezels(very pitted chrome) and 6 cyl eng/trans.
i have known Doug a long time and i know the engine was replaced(at some time) with a 300 and he always boasted that the truck had "over 300,000" on it.
i've been reading your forums and have alot of them referenced for later use and you guys have the ideas swirling thru my head. i would have tear down pics by sunday but i've got dirt track street stocks(brand x-yuck) in the garage and a '72 maverick with a '01 Cobra motor blocking the driveway(a buddy's)

Dude. That rust is way ugly, you can swap a top, but if you've never done one I wouldn't recommend it as a first time project. Where are you located.
I bought a cherry 66 cab at Pate this year for way little money. No rust, as in NO RUST. They are still out there.
Tell us where you're located and maybe somebody local can give you a hand looking.
Good luck and keep us posted.
I'm not arguing with you. I'm just explaining why I'm right.
Pardon me. Does your deaug bite?

i'm in northern va, sorry, had never finished my profile. definitely not my first project. i build and repair dirt track racecars in my spare time. i have an 8 foot sheet metal brake, tubing bender, bead roller, english wheel, miller mig welder. if anybody needs any work in my area, i am really cheap. i'm not really good on the english wheel, that was more my dad's thing. that brake comes in handy for heavy jobs, it's an old 1900's cast iron unit, not some of the newer junk.

Looks like you've got some work to do-excited to see the progress!

I would LOVE to see some more pictures of the Maverick with the 01 Cobra motor in it-I've always been a big fan of those NA 4V motors, especially in older Fords :D

:welcome: from Phoenix.
It sounds like you have a handle on the amount of work involved in the project. It will all be worth it when you are finished. I took 9 1/2 years to complete mine.
Show us some pics of the engine in the Maverick. I love those 4V engines. They look so cool in an old vehicle.

Ricky, I have a 1965 that I'll be parting out real soon. Cab is in real good shape. Area code 24534, about a 4 hour drive.

Bed's not bad. The lower front of the fenders need patch panels, but the rest is pretty good. I'll get some pics tomorrow if you want. I'm taking the grille and custom cab trim off for my '66.

i definitely want the cab. i want to keep my styleside bed, not really interested in the stepside. i have a camera full of update pics including some of the maverick and i can't figure why it won't download them. i've got a good rebuildable or usable as is bench seat, fixable steering wheel(horn button is just the center and doesn't have that 3 spoke ring on it), column shift linkage, 6 cyl clutch bellcrank, clutch pedal....i don't really know what any of that stuff is worth. if anybody wants any of that stuff i can text pics until i get somebody to help me figure out the camera.

i just went this past saturday and met billva and picked up a cab, doors, hood, and fender. all for a really good deal!
leaving Bill's house to head home.

the jag front i had picked up friday from a local salvage yard
Image
then sunday morn i got busy with more tear-down
Image
this is how lazy people torch off the bed bolts
Image
and then i started installing most of the chassis grease and gunk on arms, face, and clothes, or in other words i started pressure washing the frame. i ran out of light, energy and back muscles.

between switching jobs and family health problems, i haven't had much garage time until recently. i got the step notch done, mustang tank installed, and have been working a little on the body. filled the old gas filller hole, filled door mirror holes, filled the old radio chop job, and filled the old ashtray hole. planned on getting alot more done over the next week but just pulled a bunch of muscles in my lower back. well here's a few(shitty) pics.
