223 intake rings

I'm in the process of putting the top end back together on my 223. Put the head on yesterday and the manifolds on this evening. In my haste I forgot to put the little split rings back between the intake manifold and the head. So my question today is, are those rings nessicary? Do I need to take the manifolds off and slip them in? I haven't worked on a Ford before so those are new to me. Also, is there a gasket for the heat riser? I bought the "full gasket kit" from autozone but there's noting in there resembling the riser. Thanks in advance.
