I have Banned FTE

Post by banjopicker66 »

Well, Folks, the other truck site has finally taken ad blocking wars to the next step.
If you use an ad-blocking mechanism, they block the web page from you.
I WAS an ardent and paying supporter of the other truck site.
Not now.

Do they have the right to do this?
Of course.
They need advertisers.
I have the right to not visit their site anymore, either.

I feel for Ken since he sold his web site. He is a good friend, and he made his love for Ford trucks turn into his livelihood, a wonderful dream come true. I wish him the best, but I despise obtrusive and intrusive ads.

And oddly enough most people just despise obtrusive and intrusive Ken Pains! Thanks, Lyman.

In all fairness I think I can see where he was going when he started "editing" on his site, sorta right idea. Unfortunately like alot of people (been guilty here too) he just went way overboard and put too much personal opinion into what he was doing. Kinda actually fell sorry for him though in a way, credibility price was high I believe.

I dont know the guy from adam, nor have I ever been to the site other than a few google links, but the VAST majority of information I've found on him personally and his policies with his site have been absolutely terrible. Not just opinions on this site, but those on several others.

I can't say I have too high of an opinion of him just from that standpoint.

I also can't feel too sorry for whatever state he's in now, since he willingly sold his website. And probably made quite a penny on it.

:iagree: :peepwall: shrug.gif
Been there, done that, but I'm driven to still help others rather than let 'em "screw up" using cockamamie BS some post on the site. :barf:

I just run my Cache Clean Program after every visit to comb out "Nits" & crumb up "injected cookies" I collect & gather up when visiting there. :stick:

I can empathize with feelings one can get there, but I also can empathize with the hobbyist who acquired a Truck, knows nothing about FoMoCO Trucks (like some advice givers on the site in point) & get a Bum Steer but have no clue it's misinformation. Why punish the new comers? Plus somebody has to get on the cases of the BS Artists there which I do often. ss_pokes2.gif

I don't need'em as much as they need what I offer. So as a retired teacher/instructor fyi.gif I'm comitted to try to inform the uninformed. old.gif

Also secret.gif I carefully refer some to come on over here, but alas NOT ALL.

I agree Pete, I have learned so much, and amassed so much info about our Slicks since I first started working on mine in the '80s, that I don't NEED them.
I sure like to help out though, remembering the kindly and tolerant help I got as an arrogant young(er) man.
But I can't help if I can't get to the website.

New here and on the other site. So I don't know the "politics" involved. I can guess, though. Went through something similar with a Marauder forum a couple of years ago. Now the original site is in decline and the newer site thrives. It happens. Can be really sad but can also turn into a positive.

Anyway, I don't get the technical aspects of this issue. I use Firefox. It seems to block most ads, but I can still get to the other site. Is there something I'm missing?

The internet for me is entertainment and information. Why would I visit a site that just frustrates and annoys me and has more mis-information than useful facts? Last time I was there I found so much wrong info and people were jumping on the band wagon like the guy that posted it was the messiah  I have never been back.

I too fee sympathy for the newbies over there, constantly being fed fodder and kept in the dark like mushrooms.

I feel obligated to help out people with legitimate question, like how to decipher Canadian VIN tag, while the other "Dummies  " over there tell him he's reading his tag incorrectly, and he doesn't know what he is taking about. Then proceed to ask for Chebby Fleetside parts for their Ford trucks.

I don't go there often, since they took down the NW chapter's forum, which used to entertain me no end, although I rarely posted there.

When the NW started their own forum, suddenly the cat and mouse game was over, and the entertainment stopped, so I rarely go to their site either.

FPB and Banjo were instrumental over there in keeping the nitwits dishing wrong advice and the rookies informed, it is sad that half that team is now gone, for them. I actually notice the Nazi-ism has mellowed there quite a bit over the past year, too, people are actually allowed to mention LMC or Dennis Carpenter in the 61-66 forum, which you really can't restore a truck without.

I'm fairly new to both sites but find this site to have a lot of useful information. On the other site I have seen quit a few times obviously wrong information given on multiple posts. I'm too new to slick not to read through the treads but I will take it all in with a grain of salt ( and a second opinion)

Keep it tuned here for the real information you need.
Somebody here has the answer to your question and is more than willing to "give it to you" - no charge.
We love Slicks, we love people who love Slicks.
I think this is probably the largest vehicle specific website on the WWW.
As I remember, we started with 28 original members on Excite and it's been growing through all the transfers from web host to web host.
What Lance, we've moved three times since the original??
Slick 60's is the best.
I could be wrong now............. but I don't think so.......... 8)
