How much gloss in engine compartment?

Post by DKC »

66 F 100 --- Just got my fender liners, radiator support and battery tray back from the sand blaster. The parts were all factory black, but what was the factory sheen? Full gloss? Semi? Also, what is special about paint called "chassis black"? I will make modifications to the truck for comfort and safety, but I want to keep appearance as stock as possible.

Definitely not gloss. It would be more semi gloss or satin. Chassis black to me is kind of satin. I did my frame in chassis black and the inner fender wells and radiator support in semi gloss. I think it looks fine

DKC, Satin or Semi gloss is what you want if going for stock appearance.
I myself don't do hardly anything like that since I started using single stage
poly urethane paint on engine bays and such. Ever seen how bright an engine bay
is in a light grey gloss finish. Like someone turned on a light. Not that you want
yours like that. Just seen some cool things done a bit different from the factory
method. I do like to do the front side of my core support in a black satin so the grill
stands out from the body color. TR
