Pretty crazy propane powered truck

Post by Phil »

Guy I know and his dad went to the local tuner shop's dyno day:

FordGuy545 wrote:Obviously they are probably off because they couldn't use the inductive pickup to get their rpm pickup.
But anyways here's my numbers
max power on motor - 475 whp + 496 wtq ------------avg 363 hp/437 tq
max power on 100 shot - 549 whp + 593 wtq ---------avg 476 hp/517 tq

They would only do one run for dad because we think the dyno guy got scared
dads #'s
540 whp + 943 wtq :omg:
it made that torque at 2100 rpm. It probably had more in it because it started misfiring early, so we think maybe the boost retard was taking too much timing out. but we couldn't do the other two runs to figure that out

I'm always impressed when people use a benchmark car like a Corvette for comparing drag racing results. He is apparently not matching up against Z06's. Wonder how well it corners?

12.6 in the quarter is fairly impressive for a modern truck with the frontal area of a barn. Just seems his ET is a bit lacking for a 500+ inch big block with a supercharger.

Looks pretty impressive. Gotta give the guy a :thumright: for taking a road less traveled, too.

I see his brake fluid doesn't agree with his master cylinder paint.

All a vette is a theoretical (sp) bench mark. It really does not say anything. WHat vette? A 1979 vette is not all that fast. A Z06, that is another animal all together. That is a fast friggen ride. People on the chevy side of the coin say that they can school a mustang. Really?? My dad has a 07 gt 500 with some tweaks from the Shelby factory. Its faster than most late model Chevy anything.
Cheers,

Pretty sure it was a C5.

Point is, you spend on your mid life crisis car and get spanked by a 5000lb+ bagged, long bed truck on eighteens.

Here is his truck:

Does it come with a spatula?

Figgured you would need one for that bar-b-que

Not a bad idea except propane is way expensive up here

You can make pretty big power on the 'pane. What's even better though is that a propane engine's oil rarely gets dirty unlike a Diesel or Gasoline engine. I've taken apart a few propane powered motors with my dad and they are squeaky clean inside.

The Moline G1000 tractor I have on my farm can't go a day after an oil change without the oil turning pitch black. But the G705 my dad bought from a neighbor that is on LP had absolutely clean oil even after sitting in a field for 10+ years.

Oh, well that clears things up....

Which C5?

2001 Chevrolet Corvette C5-R 3.5 10.3
2001 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 4.6 13.0
2001 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe 4.8 13.1
2002 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 4.1 12.5
2002 Chevrolet Corvette (Lingenfelter 427 twin turbo) 1.97 9.24
2003 Chevrolet Corvette (50th Anniversary) Manual, 4.9 13.4 (R&T Aug. ‘02)
2005 Chevrolet Corvette Z51 4.3 12.7 (C&D)
2006 Chevrolet Corvette ZO6 3.5 11.5 (MT Oct ‘05)

I still find it silly to compare a modified vehicle to a stock procuction vehicle even if it's a Corvette. I am quite sure I could find a plethora of modified Honda Civics that could hand that guy his ass with an engine that is a quarter the size as his, so what's the point?

If he had won his division in the NHRA or something like that it would be noteworthy. Please don't get me wrong, I aplaud him for doing his own thing. He has a damn fast truck built his own way and I would never want to discourage him. But I would encourage him to compete against similarly modified trucks, that's my idea of fun.
