Re: Pulling my 352
I noticed your Ford C5AE-D pulley. Did your truck come with air conditioning?

Re: Pulling my 352
I would say that motor is possibly a transplant, notice the riser on the valve cover for the oil fill hole. Also looks like a good time to do a degreasing of the engine compartment. A goo steam cleaning and or pressure wash would do wonders. That motor may not be a 352 and could be anything from a 332 to a 428.

Re: Pulling my 352
I saw that riser. I have seen that on a 534 and they were also on Industrial 428s. They twist on to any valve cover like a regular cap and use a push on housing for the paper element. There were probably other configurations and applications as well.64 f100 wrote:I would say that motor is possibly a transplant, notice the riser on the valve cover for the oil fill hole. Re: Pulling my 352
Measure it and you will know for sure. Easy enough to do. I pulled my engine last summer and did nearly the same but did pull the heads and have them checked out, installed new cam, lifters, springs, and timing gear & chain. Cleaned out the water passages, replace freeze plugs, water pump, fuel pump, intake and new carb. Good luck on your project.
Re: Pulling my 352
Well it's out, here's that freeze plug
And also found this...
Now the fun begins, clean up,all new seals, freeze plugs and a 475HP paint job

Don't remember mine cracking long ways like that. I have that manifold in the classifieds. You never did say if you had factory air conditioning or not.

Chris,
Yes the a/c was on truck and it worked. Was a Rotunda unit real nice condition sold it to Toyz at Altoona SlickStock 2014.......A/C on these trucks seems wrong at least to me.I have an extra manifold, thanks for the offer

Re: Pulling my 352
That explains why it had the Ford pulley. The truck ac units I have came with non Ford cast iron pulleys that bolted to the front. Your pulley is better because it has it's own timing marks that don't move when the balancer ruber slips.Mr. Jones wrote:Chris,

Re: Pulling my 352
Big progress today,three of these.....
= Two valve covers and one exhaust manifold
Only one manifold bolt to go....exhaust stud is in the way, can't get a socket on it....bottle of mapp gas out in the 350....just not motivated to walk out and get it.I'll grab it tomorrow on my way in...
Stay tuned for the next exciting episode of "Pulling my 352"

Re: Pulling my 352
Moving along. Had 3 broken bolts on my exhaust manifold that I had to extricate. It's a delicate balance of heat and lube. Got 2 of the 3 without drilling.
Re: Pulling my 352
Looks good. I've always had bad freeze plugs on the factory motors.
How are you uploading your pics? Mine are to big to upload

Re: Pulling my 352
Haven't been able to do much for the last two weeks, been dealing with a summer head and sinus cold..wake up and start blowing my nose, hacking cough, headache and try to work at least till noon, by which time I'd be totally exhausted and go home... sit down and fall asleep.....really sucked.....think those days are over.....worked all day today came home feeling good....
In two weeks this is all I accomplished....
Removed the freeze plugs and cleaned up one side of block.....
And here's the little shithead.......
What do you all think of the amount of slack in the timing chain
And one more question, going to install a mech.oil pressure guage....which one of these two senders would be best to eliminate for the new guage
Thanks for any or all advice
Dan

Re: Pulling my 352
The big one is for the gauge in the dash and the little one if for the light. So if you are replacing the gauge, swap out the big one.

Good info. I wondered why there were 2 when I pulled my engine last summer. Just put em back like I found them.bruceandersson wrote:The big one is for the gauge in the dash and the little one if for the light. So if you are replacing the gauge, swap out the big one.

Re: Pulling my 352
Dan, Looks like your freeze plugs were ready to be replaced. Mine looked mint compared to yours. But to be fair, 2 of them had been replaced with the rubber type ones.
My timing chain had more slop than that one and the teeth on the timing gear were worn so much they looked like a cresting wave. I could almost remove the chain by hand it was so loose. It's amazing it didn't jump a tooth or 2.
Keep up the good work and update us.

Re: Pulling my 352
Since you are there, I would replace the timing set. Would be a lot cheaper that going back in later.

If restoring a ford was easy, chevy guys could do it.
