RedHead Steering box

Post by White97 »

Installed my Redhead PS steering box yesterday. Chose the close-ratio option, all I can say is WOW! One of the best upgrades I've done, direct feel to the front wheels, real nice tight feel, no slop at all.

Great news, a question though, did it improve steering ease at slow speeds as in parking?

I am wondering if they make power steering boxes to fit any 50s and 60s Ford trucks?

I have power steering in the Turk Gary, but it is way to light in the front end at speed for my taste, of course it's out of a 79 Cordoba but still there ought to be a way to tone it down.

So, does the Redhead box you bought fit your 65? The website indicates it's for 70-79 F-series.

I'd like to have the faster steering ratio...It's a great idea!

sorry - haven't logged in for a while. To answer the questions:

did it improve steering ease at slow speeds as in parking?
Absolutely, I had already converted to PS from a 73/79, but the slop in the old box was noticable, just a lot of movement before wheels would turn. New box is direct, you turn the wheel, the tires turn.

power steering boxes to fit any 50s and 60s Ford trucks?
Not sure, they modify and sell all makes/years

This bolted right in, my set up is: IdidIt tilt column, FE 73/79 PS pump, and the RedHead steering box with the quick ratio option ($10 more) and DJM drop beams/ 73/79 disc brakes and poly bushings throughout the front end, 215-70-15 tires.
