Do old trucks get arthritis?

Post by jeepbut »

The doors on Grace slick stick when it rains. I have oiled everything. There is not enough door rubber left to affect it. Cab mounts good. Door operate fine once the sun has been out a few hours. Passenger side is the worst. Takes a real good yank to open it. Any clues other than the arthritis theory?

I could understand a wood door doing that
Swelling & making things tight....
But that shouldn't effect metal

I could see an old truck that had a bunch of
Trashy stuff in the cab corners getting wet & swelling
Your truck is probly clean though.....

Very clean Pat. No obstruction of any kind that I can find. Halloween is coming up. Haunted maybe?

I suspect that one of the previous owners used your truck to haul chickens to the slaughter house.
The problem you've described could be caused by POULTRYGEISTS. :rotflmao:

Is it in the door mechanism? Maybe the grease isn’t the right kind?

It is both doors. Right sticks more than left. Only started this two or three rains ago. Weird. I can't wait for the next rain so I can play with it.

Is it the same getting in as getting out Lyman ?, could be the door mechanism has a load of grime on it and that holds moisture when it's raining
and that stops the keeper from moving all the way back and catching just a little, making it harder to open the door... or move to a dryer climate !! ..

Lyman, it just does not want to go out in the rain. You should treat it better.

96 F-150 in shop for clutch so I drove Grace Slick. Rain came, sticking doors came with it. Spent lunch playing with it. Cleaned hinges and latches with de-greaser first. Tried spray oil, atf, motor oil, 90 weight gear lube and finally some blue high dollar electric motor grease. Nothing helped. I think it may in fact be haunted. Oh well, it started out of the blue, maybe it will stop just as suddenly.
