Sound of fluid rushing forward on start up

Post by Chef_Zimm »

After siting for a while I hear a rush of fluid (gas I am assuming) from behind me moving forward towards motor. Is this normal? It sounds to be on the pasanger side....
Thanks ahead of time guys!

292, 4speed, completely stock. It last for a quick second right after the engine starts. You can hear it loudly rushing forward.

And is that something to worry about? Air in the heater core. How would I remedy that? It’s a new sound...

I would think if your coolant level is
Topped off... shouldn't be a problem

Are you sure it isn't the starter disengaging ?

Can you start it , run 15 seconds , shut off...restart, does it
Sound the same way... or just after sitting a while ?

Only after sitting a while. It clearly is fluid and air gurgling.

Like my uncle always said if it makes a noise you don't want to hear turn the radio up.

My experience is if it's full of coolant, and kept full, it will eventually work it's way out of the heater core.
The more you use it the sooner it will happen.
But it's just noise, and shouldn't cause any other problem.

On the other hand if it does it every time it sits for awhile, you may have a leak in the heater core, or heater hoses that is tiny enough to not be noticed.
I would take the cover off of the heater box and check for obvious signs of a leak that will cause rot.
Easiest way to check is to loop a hose at the water pump so you bypass the entire heater system.

As noted on the “other” site, this is quite often symptomatic of reversed heater hoses.
