Stock style master cylinder
Stock style master cylinder
My 3 month old replacement master cylinder is already bad. It's leaking down the inside of the firewall and not building up any pressure. It's a Cardone Select 13-37781. Looks like it was a 90 day warranty so it managed to last just barely that long...
What brand do you guys recommend?

Hmm. Don't like to read such news...
I used the same master cylinder when I went through my brakes this spring. The Cardone Select replaced an original master cylinder that I had rebuilt in the early 90's (and had probably been rebuilt at least once prior).
If you have your original master cylinder, perhaps you could just rebuild that one?

Re: Stock style master cylinder
I have been less than impressed many times with A1 Cardone so called remanufactured parts. Bummer.

Was it rebuilt? I always go new on brake parts.
Re: Stock style master cylinder
I believe the "Select" stuff is not supposed to be rebuilds.bruceandersson wrote:Was it rebuilt? I always go new on brake parts.

Amazon has a Wagner premium for $53. That's $10 more than I paid for the Cardone. But hopefully it's better quality.slick4x4 wrote:I'm thinking mine was a Wagner

I go to autozone a lot
Not because they have the best quality...
But because this store has one of the best managers
Kevin ....
I've never met a guy that has so many numbers memorized in his head
I might not go in there for a couple months
When he rings me up... he knows my phone number
He knows hundreds of guys phone numbers
He knows hundreds of filter numbers .....
But the best part ...
If I go in there to buy something
And he knows he might not be able to help
He will just tell me what place will
Sends me right to a competitor store.....
And when I have trouble with a part
Zero questions & takes it back
I don't mind paying the extra for that service
Not because they have the best quality...
But because this store has one of the best managers

Re: Stock style master cylinder
I remember when I was younger parts stores being like that. But sadly the stores around me have a high turnover rate and most of the employees have very little knowledge or desire to acquire the knowledge. Plus they never have parts for vintage vehicles in stock. So for parts I typically just order them myself. I only visit the parts store for fluids and such.slick4x4 wrote:I go to autozone a lot

Re: Stock style master cylinder
There are a couple in town that still have good parts counter men
The NAPA. Has a gal that hands down is one of the best
One thing that makes me madder than anything
Is a guy that try's to BS me .....
If you don't know.. that doesn't bother me
Try to BS me..... that's a whole different thing

Re: Stock style master cylinder
Quality parts counter guys are hard to find. Don't blame you. I avoid the OReilley's here in town as they seem to hire young guys who know nothing about older cars and equipment. Points and rotor bug will send them in to overload. Have better luck at NAPA counter and I get a great employer discount.slick4x4 wrote:I go to autozone a lot
