Short box saddle tanks?

Post by troymn »

Hi Guys!
I am wondering if any companies made saddle tanks for short box truck? I know ford did not . The ones that sit on the outside of the frame and fill up threw the rear wheel wells. I have seen long boxes with them but, I have measured them and they are to long to stuff under my short box. I know '' they are dangerous". I want to relocate my in cab tank but, don't want to cut holes in the box so the ones that fill under the wheel wells would be cool. Thanks!

I found a short wheel base 67 with a tank between the drive shaft and frame. The fill came up through the floor right next to the wall behind the drivers side about 12" from the front of the bed. The fill neck came out of the side of the bed and at the same height as the cab tank fill cap. The stamped cover that protected the filler neck looked factory and was the same original brown like the rest of the truck. I have not permanently mounted the tank yet but it does fit the cross members on my 65.

Yes, the 'inboard' mid mount tanks from the bumps will fit the frame etc. You will have a conflict however, with the parking brake cable.

I saw that in another post. The slick on FTE with this set up ran his facrory pickup parking brake cable to a Clark 282.66V's transbrake. Bad news if a driveshaft comes loose and takes your brake line with it.

I have one of those plastic tanks that fill from the rear wheel well. i removed it from a truck I parted out. if you are still looking i could get it down and see if it will fit a shortbox.

Hi Jim, Sorry I just seen this reply! Thanks for the offer! I measure one from a long box and it was way to long. Is yours off a short box truck?
