Cab corner patch panels

Post by 04sd »

Are all of the suppliers selling the same part made by the same company?
If they are all the same I'll just go for the cheapest but I'm willing to pay more for better fit or heavier metal if someone has a better part than the others.

SEE You have the Black Tawain ones that a lot of these big time suppliers sell that they say 61/66 trucks , and then there is this other place that sells the USA Made ones that advertises 62/66 and reason starting out at 62 cause 61 cab corners are different so they mighty know something

I realize you are the only one that advertises 62/66 but since nobody makes the correct panel for a 61, if you have a 61, you would need to use the 62/66 panel. Most people wouldn't know or care so likely that's why they advertise that way. I believe there are other parts that have the same situation, even done by Ford back in the day.
My real question though was about fit and metal thickness. I would prefer to buy US made but I'm not going to buy US made at double the price just because it is US made. Even a US made panel could be stamped out of thin metal and not fit correctly, and likewise an import panel could have original gauge metal and fit perfect. I was looking for first hand end user input on panels or actual data on metal thickness.

The U.S. made ones are thicker, and the black Taiwan ones fit better, so no matter who you get them from you're not going to be able to get the best of both worlds. It's a shame but you have a choice to make either way.

So what was your choice. Which do you sell?

I bought unpainted Shott (Schott?) panels for my '57. They were horrible. Full of wrinkles, didn't fit. They were nice and thick but I promised myself I would never buy another metal panel made by that company.

Truckrat:

Are you needing them for the 57-60 cab, or are you referring to the lower rear corners of the bed below the tail lights?
