Met a guy

Post by slick4x4 »

So I was looking in Craigslist for a small propane tank
and found one very reasonable.
Texted the guy & set up to meet at Walmart in newton ks...
it's about a 60 mile drive ...
Jim my son was using my other truck,
so Colleen & I got in Tunner (F350) & headed south ..
not real cold (40*) but Colleen asked if I would turn the heater off (it works real good) ...
rolling at 47 mph it's nice to see the countryside ...
rolled into the parking lot & seen a couple guys get out of their late model dully Ford
(I had told them I was driving an "old" Ford ...
I rolled down my window & asked " propane Tank ?" ... yep ...
I got out and he said "63 ?" .... yep ! ...
anyway .. after talking for a while .. the guy owns 15 Slicks (one being a short BBW) ..
I invited him to join Slick60s ... and he was going to look us up ,
as he had never heard of such a group ....
ol Forrest Gump's mama was right .... "you never know what your gonna get"...
and that 120 mile round trip ? ... flawless ! ...
not bad for pulling it out of the weeds less than a year ago !

Sounds like you had a GREAT day and a safe and satisfying trip.....

I've often wondered how many slicks are just resting in old barns, or someones garage, within a 2 mile radius of our homes that you never see.

Years ago I saw a 56 Panel truck that was in Super nice original condition. I eye-balled it every time I passed this guys house. Our local airport went International, bought the guys property, and demolished all the building for a new runway, and I never knew where that truck went. 28 years later I was doing Roofing work, and was called to a house for a roofing estimate. I knew where it was because I'd been by that house a half million times.

I was measuring the roof for the quote, when the old guy came out with his rubber boots on, unlocked his garage to get his tiller out to till his garden. Just as the garage door went up, my jaw dropped, and I saw that panel truck. It had been in that garage for 28 years, and without hesitation, for $1800.00 it went home with me.... :woohoo:

Wish I still had it today.

Well .. at least you had it for a while ...

I have to drive by a guys farm to check the waterwells
For the rural water district job
There was a little old motor grader out back
I never stopped
Didn't want to "bother" him.....
Then one day I drove by
Metal scrappers were cutting stuff up
Too late... the grader was in pieces
I was about sick to my stomache and so
Mad at myself :cussing:

When I moved back to NY I put a uni tailgate up for sale. Wouldn’t ya know that the guy who came to get lived 2 miles down the road and was restoring one with his son? Then once spring hit I passed a beautiful looked to be survivor 65 F250 on the road almost every morning on my way to work. And come to find out my landlord had a warehouse full of restored muscle cars and various other 50’s/60’s projects! They’re out there hiding right next door...
