New '64 LWB Custom Cab project

Post by FORDification »

I've been pretty active on the Slick60s Facebook group, but haven't been here on the forums in a while. I figured I'd pop in and show you another project truck I just picked up. Not even a week into the new year and I already bought another one.

A friend of mine at the other end of the state put this up for sale and made me a good deal on it. I made the 4-hour drive each way on Feb. 3 to pick it up.

In this shot you can see what's left of the 292. Someone apparently decided to do a teardown and then lost interest.

Here's a shot of my '62 with the '64. The '62 was gifted to me after sitting in a field for more than 20 years. With a little tinkering I was able to get it fired up and running pretty smoothly. I then proceeded to completely rebuild the entire braking system in anticipation of just having something cool to drive to town now and then. The cab and bed look good in this shot, but the lower third of the cab is completely rusted away, as is the bed floor. So while not actively searching, I was keeping my eyes open for a donor vehicle to swipe a cab from. However, the '64 is in MUCH better shape, so this summer I'm just going to part out the '62, swapping the brakes and 223 engine and 3-spd. trans over to the '64...and then just drive it.

I went to get the '64 the day before the big polar vortex hit...I was planning on getting the truck unloaded off the trailer and parked next to the '62, but by the time I got home that night it was getting COLD...and then the snows hit the next day, and it's been typical cold Nebraska weather ever since. So in the meantime, here's what I see every morning on the way to work. Looking forward to warmer temps so I can get to work on it!

I watch the Facebook too. It’s an instant showcase but quickly moved on like a Kidd with ADHD. That’s why I like this site- always time to see what was missed and come back topreviously viewed stories easier.
The months may change, but I am always APRIL

Wish I was closer to Nebraska. The bed on your 62 looks good, but would look better in North Carolina! Two good looking trucks, especially in the snow

I'll post some pics of it once that snow goes away and I start swapping parts over, but the bed floor is half gone. The rest isn't so bad really...I might consider turning it into a trailer.
