Power steering fluid

Post by 9Fingers »

When reworking the 65 4x4, 300 six, I used a power steering pump that I picked up with the brackets to mount to the inline six. It's never worked. I have a replacement from the local chain auto parts supply.

I don't have an owners manual for a 78 F150, which the pump cross refences to, and online searches get two answers: Type F auto transmission fluid OR fluid specifically labeled Power steering fluid.

So I ask the experts here, what say ye? Type F or the other?

Thank you,. Bradshaw

This is the way I was brought up. Type F trans fluid we used in power steering pumps in all of out trucks which was Fords, Macks, Petes, etc.., used in the diesel fuel tanks and used it in the winter time in our oil burner heaters in the house and still use it,, but then you might get some to be political correct use power steering fluid

Thanks, I'm not interested in political correctness, just want the right stuff in there to keep the pump doing what it's supposed to do.
