Here is a. New question
Here is a. New question
Big opening fenders ...
We use to think that all 4x4s had them ....
But learned that wasn't the case...
It depends on the tire size ordered
We do know all F350 trucks had big opening fenders
Here is my question
Did any unibodies ever come with big opening fenders ?
I'm sure the F250 unibodies could be ordered with the larger (17") tires...

Re: Here is a. New question
To my understanding, yes if the optional 17" or 19.5" wheels were ordered.
I am NOT a life long ford parts slinger and the ultimate authority.
But I do attend 2nd shift meetings, and stayed at a SS hotel.

Re: Here is a. New question
I know power assist steering was offered, but have not seen one on any slicks or fridges, including 4x4 and tonners. Unless added during a resto build.
Have seen one on a 68 tilt cab, grain truck and 70's 4x4's.
Tom would be the guy to ask about either option, if anyone would see those options in their original form, he would.
I would expect to see the optional large opening fenders on government purchase trucks, military, forestry, fire dept, utilities etc. Which would predominantly be stepside and cab chassis, not styleside/uni.

Re: Here is a. New question
Tom had a fridge on his truck at SS in KC 2018
He had a 57-60 Fridge truck
It had power steering
I had no idea they had that option

Re: Here is a. New question
Not 100% correct answers though. Not all of the 61-65 four wheel drive trucks had large fenders. You can find he details on FTE if you search, I believe TripleFrame provided the year by year breakdown.jamesdfo wrote:Pat: NOT a new question, but the thread linked below has answers:)

Re: Here is a. New question
Maybe it's me, but a person could easily be persuaded that this is a ORIGINAL factory painted F-250 unibody, and it has the larger opening on the front fenders. Well maybe 97% persuaded, I have seen some fantastic new-look to old-look paint work.
Re: Here is a. New question
Bill: I believe if you look at MY post in that thread, it will list most applications of 36" & 45" Wheel opening fenders by the tire size they left the factory with, the exception being the F350's, which all used the 45" wheel opening.......
If there's a mistake in the info below, please point it out (info below is from a response on FTE by ND)
Same info from linked post pasted in below...........
An excerpt from a post on another channel;)
36" opening radius front fenders:
1961/66 F100 2WD with 15" & 16" wheels;
1961/66 F250 2WD with 16" wheels;
1966 F100 4WD with 15" & 16" wheels.
45" opening radius front fenders:
1961/65 F100 4WD & 1961/66 F100 2WD with 17.5" wheels;
1961/66 F250 4WD & 2WD with 19.5" wheels;
1966 F100 4WD with 17.5" wheels;

Re: Here is a. New question
Rick: If that Uni left the factory with 19.5" tires, the 45" wheel opening fenders would be correct......

Read through this thread https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1516 ... ody-2.html
I believe Tripleframe's info on the fender sizes for 4x4 trucks to be a better source than what ND pulled from the parts book. Both of these guys are a wealth of knowledge that we are lucky to have but based on trucks I've seen over the years I think TF has it right.
The point is, there are 4x4 trucks in addition to the odd ball 1966 F100 that used the small fenders.

Re: Here is a. New question
Looks like a unibody ,could indeed come with the big opening fenders
They have my vote, for being one of the most "uncommon" optioned Slick

Re: Here is a. New question
The slicks did not offer factory power assist steering on the light duty leaf sprung trucks.
That being said dealers were known to install the ram type assist for customers.
Part of my business was wrecker conversions; making that installation a very popular dealer option.

Re: Here is a. New question
hard to say what was factory, In a factory builders guide that I have DID Not see as a option for power steering, But in Ford Parts book did see part #'s for power steering parts, it was a ram system with a part that attaches to the drag link, hoses to a junction block on drivers side to frame rail then hoses to control valve off the pitman arm and also brackets mount as a stop on the frame rail so it cannot go beyond the specs.
